Interesting because Lavin has always been complimentary of Cooley.  Guess that door doesn't swing both ways.  Granted Lav's style is to compliment opponents whereas Big Ed seems a bit more combative.

Dave -- what is the problem that Providence's staff has with ours?  Does it just boil down to recruiting wars?

Anyone else get the sense that Cooley hates losing to us a little bit more than some other teams in the conference?  I know reading body language is impossible, but it almost seemed like he really cannot stand losing to Lavin.  Maybe it is because of how the Sanchez/Obekpa/Sampson recruiting battles turned out.

That is fact. Their whole staff does not like SJU and they aren't exactly shy about saying it on the trail.

Neither does most of this board.

Are you not , in the least bit, happy about how the team played last night or lately, for that matter?  Curious..

of course I'm happy. I'm a fan, but the idea that we should be jumping up and down is too much for me. We have a HUGE hill to climb. Last night, on Feb 4th, we achieved our first win of the season worth mentioning. This team can make the tournament. But it needs to save face, and to show recruits that Lavin does in fact have a plan of some sort, even if he doesn't.

Lavin doesn't rip on anyone. Even his own players when they quit the gleam in mid season. Not his style.

Never mentioned it because it slipped my mind but when we played San Fran I paid attention to the handshakes after the game to see how Lavin interacted with Dwayne Polee Sr.  Handshake and long embrace followed but quite a few words.

Boo, I hear what he's saying. Lavin made Sampson commit the foul at end vs. Penn St. and some have Dom confused with Grady Reynolds. Players gatta play, and they are. All of them. Boards been wearing on me but I'm not leaving. I root for all the guys, including Dom who doesn't care about numbers, and coach Steve, who has had a rough go. Hey Poison, did ya mean it's hard to tell if some posters are SJU fans? Maybe I got it wrong.

I know it has been brought up before, but I really don't remember the answer. Could someone please tell me what the deal is with Cooley's head?

I think Lav stuck with Dom a little too much in 2nd half. When team was stagnant and Harrison was on the bench I would have liked to see Branch on the floor and let him and Sheed rotate of the ball. You have 2 creators on the floor.

Thought Sanchez could have maybe snuck in there too but hey a win is a win.

Team came out of the gates strong which is so important on the road. Hats off to them. Loved the full court pressure to start things off and they stung the Friars.

Jordan is really starting to turn it up! Also love that Obekpa is inserting himself offensively. Teams can't cheat on SJU defensively anymore with everyone on the floor contributing.
Foul 4 on Harrison did not do wonders for the rotation. Was Dom in when D turned the game back around? Really , I don't know. I do know he made big steal that led to a basket which was huge, and clutch. PC's 14 pt run happened in a hurry. I sorta felt the guys showed some tired more on D then they did with the ball. We don't get stops, we don't score. First half was exception when our scoring was killing their runs. Guys were calling for a hundred, still think this team wins with D.

Best pass phil has had all year

Best or only?

One in the same. BTW Greene has played in 76 of the teams last 200 minutes, although I agree with the point.  Otherwise a good read.

Nice road win. Loved Karr and Sheed performances. Thank you Friars for continually fouling Dlo in the last 1;45 which was interminable. Even Phil got into the passing act with a great bounce pass in the lane that led directly to a basket. Keep getting better, move up in the standings and maybe we can win 3 straight in BET and make selection Sunday a holiday for johnnie fans!

Wait, there was an actual *game* last night? From reading this forum, I thought there was just a last second dunk and a brief handshake between the coaching staff.  :idiot2:

Sure
The handshake was a quicky too.

To be fair i've noticed he has done that in pretty every game. I'm not sure what kind of problems he has with Lavin but they embraced each other before the game

Only 5 turnovers tonight.

Don't mention turnovers.  Our posters are completely unconcerned with turnovers.  It is off the map as a statistic of importance to our fanbase.

That's because Greene has a tendency to not run a play. He doesn't turn the ball over, but also doesn't involve the other 4 guys in ways that make them better players. So, while we appreciate that Greene is careful with the ball, it's better for the team to have a PG out there who's intention is make everyone around him better.

Greene defense on Cotton was horrible last night.. Keep in mind.. I am not a Greene hater.    The way Greene was used last night was perfect. He hit a few key shots and gave Jordan and Harrison some rest.   I didn't agree with decision to start him though..  especially since defense was the reason given.. He got abused. Then again, not sure Bruce Bowen would have contained him last night at times...
