If it gets this bad, we can send in Mike Maher.  He still has eligibility.

Also a legit 6'4". He won't disappoint his fans by suddenly being 6'1" at the draft.

If any of you follow Rysheed on twitter it seems like he is pretty much coming back next year, not really worried about him.

Obekpa is 50/50 to me. He had a stretch where he played great but other than that looked uninterested for most of the season. Especially how he ended the season with the BET controversy and the dud of a performance in the NIT.

If Lavin has any positive influence over Obekpa, he needs to impress upon him that next year is Chris' golden ticket opportunity.  He's going to get 30+ minutes a game (if he avoids fouling out first, a big if).  If there was ever a time to impress scouts and build his NBA stock, it's now.

Maybe he gets 30 minutes or maybe he gets thrown under the bus when the team doesn't gel until February. Next year Lavin's use for Obekpa may well boil down to how many of his relatives are terminally ill. Smart money doesn't wait for the Titanic to hit the iceberg before it gets off the ship.

why would the team stink. we didnt stink this year. I remember when we stunk

St. John's was beaten on the boards in virtually every game this season.  Chances are losing Sampson, Sanchez, and God's Gift will not help in that area.

If the guys who were responsible for us getting killed on the boards leave, maybe it will.

And are replaced by who?   6'4 felix Balamou?

Sampson, Sanchez, Gift, Obekpa may not have been perfect but they are light years better than any of the front court alternatives we might have.

Jones is a perfectly serviceable PF. Big body, good hands. Has to decide to rebound, that's all.

The Hoop will be the man next year.  15 shots a game minimum.  He will most likely be the last scholarship player on the team

I was sort of working under the assumption that they'd be replaced by someone taller than 6'4.

I know, and I don't mean to be a jerk.   As Fun pointed out, and I agree, Christian Jones is a viable power forward.   And I think an argument could be made that because he is less selfish, and a better foul shooter, he could end up as a more valuable piece than Sampson.

The problem for me is who plays alongside Jones or backs him up.    I think the rumors about Obekpa have a lot of legs.    And if that's the case then we're looking at losing all our front court players from this season.
Jones is one piece, but he's not a center - and he also can't be counted on to play 40mins.      So that leaves us with the most likely alternative - Delarosa, and essentially no backups at PF or C.    I'm sure there will be bodies on the roster, but there just isn't much talent left to be confident that we will be able to add 2 more quality fowards to the rotation.
That's the problem as I see it.   Sampson leaving isn't the end of the world - jones can fill his shoes.   But if another shoe drops...

Lavin will bill Hooper as having a wingspan of a 7 footer with the  longest arms on the best 3 point shooter he's ever coached.  Problem solved.

Jones can fill his shoes?  Really?

You know that the Astros have the same record as the Red Sox right now.  Figure out the analogy?

I hear you....Obekpa leaving would really be the killer and yeah, Lavin is going to have to work some magic to find some guys. But they can be found. Maybe guys who wouldnt be expected to play right away at other places, but serviceable guys. Anybody who just spent the last week watching March Madness has to come away with one inescapable conclusion...there are a whole s***load of teams out there who have zero or few top 100 recruits, yet manage to be successful.

I expect that JaKarr will be replaced by a transfer with instant eligibility or a JC player because now we can offer something more important than a scholarship--we can offer playing time.  No one was going to start ahead of JaKarr or eat into his 30 minutes plus

F  Jones
F  Balamou
G Harrison
G Greene
G Branch

6 man Hooper

Is there a chance we see this? Hopefully Jordan and Obekpa stay but there has been more than rumblings about them. Hopefully Lavin is scouring the Juco's as we speak

If it gets this bad, we can send in Mike Maher.  He still has eligibility.
I'll be ready. Scouting potential players down in Colombia right now. All I've come across are either kids who worship soccer or overweight kids ( but could be good for our vaunted SJU conditioning program ). On the plus side there are so many smoking hot girls down here it's unbelievable. Even the ugly ones are hot

He turned pro in Peru.
I'm known down here as El Gringo

True story though. Last night Nathalie and I were walking in the old city in Cartagena and I'm wearing a SJU Athletics Tee Shirt and they have these horse drawn carriage rides and a carriage comes around the corner and 3 girls  start yelling Go St Johns let's go Redmen.

Apparently they didn't realize we lost in the 1st round of the prestigious NIT or they were having flashbacks to 1984

Yep. Legit 6ft 4 and I have tremendous wingspan :)
