I mean realizing ur strength and weakness. Him and Dunlap worked so well together because Lav has the vision and charisma to get the elite recruits. A person like Dunlap has the skill to get the kids ready with Lav vision in mind and it worked out great. But I think Lav took to heart people saying Dunlap was the real head coach which wasn't true.

Didn't Dunlap go from assistant/interim head coach at St. John's directly to head coach in NBA @ Charlotte? Who really was the head game coach when he was at St. John's? Lavin? If so why wasn't he considered for an NBA job? The guy is a recruiter, not a good coach. And please don't use his unfortunate illness as an excuse
I haven't argued with anyone on this site for about 4 years. the last person was realfan. i aint say anything about his illness. didn't call him a great coach. CALM THE #$%^ DOWN. and u would be a fool to think lav didn't help dunlap get the bobcats job. That's what head coaches do

Like I said personally I don't know him, but Internet wise he is a troll. He is beyond annoying are many occassions. Need not look any further than the title of this thread. He comes on a SJU website and calls a Big East school, one that most of us here love, a mid major program. He does like SJU, so why does he post here?

perhaps he is a realist who sees the reality (zero ncaa tourney wins in 14 seasons), part of a conference that is on more of a decline than improvement, a coach who doesnt work, a staff who would screw up a cup of coffee, no recruits coming in, impending transfers (more will be coming i am told).

not everyone has to say our program is doing great and lavin should be extended.

There is a difference between saying the program is not doing great and not wanting it to do well (which he clearly wants).
I am not happy with some of the things that are going on but I will root like crazy, like I did through the dark days of Jarvis and Norm.

But in the end it doesn't change the fact that he is a troll.

So I'm the problem because I call it like I see it? I'm not the one standing around watching this disaster waving my pom poms. Fans like yourself are part of the problem

I just find it is pretty pathetic that you have over 12,000 posts on the basketball fan site of a program that you don't even like.
That is the classic definition of a troll. You don't need 20/20 vision to see that.
Bill, I respectfully disagree.  Many times Baldi provides evidence/reasons (whether stats, his observations, etc.) for his opinions.   When a team doesn't perform well, and on top of that, below most fans' reasonable expectations, it is totally appropriate to do some evaluation, for better or worse, of a team one roots for.  In my 5 years on here and Redmen, I have seen nothing to indicate that Baldi doesn't root for SJ's to well along with his Iona roots.  Frankly, I'm frustrated like many with the squad for letting a golden opportunity barely slip through their hands (especially the back breaking 2nd Xavier loss at home).

Baldi might be a bit too provocative on some occasions, but imho it is not the level you're stating.  If you keep fanning the flames of the issue over and over, you are not addressing the thread yourself.  But I know you love the team like I do, so I'm not taking umbrage with you.

I don't know Baldi but can tell that he has some bball knowledge and perhaps some contacts as do a lot of folks on the boards...but he absolutely goes out of his way to incite and I don't believe he is a fan of the program

History lesson boys and girls.
Back in the last years of the reign of terror known as the Norm Roberts era, Baldi was defending Norm against about 75% of the rest of BEB. By this time it looked as if Norm was given tenure and would be around until he retired or died. So anti Norm sentiment was very high. Baldi would spam the board and defend Norm all the while claiming this or that recruit was coming. No one ever came. Most people got tired of Baldi except for Choz who bless his soul mistook Bluto's trolling for being "the voice of reason on BEB." In fact Bluto even got himself banned on BEB at one point which happened even less frequently than ST John's makes the tourney.

Well eventually Norm did get fired and Lavin was hired. Now this was universally met with excitement in the ST john's fan forum world. So much so that yours truly We are Nostradamus predicted on one of these boards that Baldi would have to become anti Lavin to survive.

Now having actually met Bluto I can tell you he is a nice guy, if you can forgive the fact that he tried to molest Dave, Tha Kid and Marillac and successfully molested Carmine at the end of the BEB gathering. He is a ST John's fan but his favorite team is some made up school Faber, Hogwarts or Iona, I forget which one.

Finally the reason he bothers some of you is because some still don't understand that you can be a fan w/o being kool aid drinker. The program hasn't been good since Jarvis was here (take that Jarvis haters). SO criticism of program will occur even if it is from the troll variety. You have more important things to worry about then Bluto anyway. Guys prematurely leaving for the NBDL, transfers, shaky coaching, no frontcourt, no recruits and our pets heads are falling off.

Thanks Wasju, I think. But St Johns is still  in the same position as it was 5 years ago with Norm. Not in The a Ncaa tournament. Oh an BIgeastboards, how first that fare after my banning?

I am a fan Bluto, keep doing what you do.
Bluto pissing people of and Hit posting again, feels like BEB old-timers day around here. Where is Maven, Old Red and Die Hard Johnny?
BTW We don't make tourney next season and you might need a new direction again as most of the board will drift over to the dark side.

The only people who supported Norm were the ones who wanted to see our program remain in shambles.

You can't compare Norm to Lavin. You can't even compare Norm to Mahoney.  Mahoney and Lavin, although awful coaches for entire seasons here, did have brief shining moments.

Norm has no accomplishments as a head coach . It is truly amazing that he held a job in NY for as long as he did. I guess that is his greatest accomplishment.

In Norm's defense pretty much every SJU coach in recent memory succeeded with the previous staff's players and then failed once it was time to coach their own recruits. Norm didn't have that luxury because of what was left behind. He just went straight into failing

That's a fair point, but in truth, no one thought Mahoney was going to go to the NCAA tournament with David Cain, Shawnelle Scott and a bunch of freshman. Lavin's first season was supposed to be a waste of time, because everyone believed norm could only land second rate players.

It's really me, the "Real" HTGS, so we can lay it to rest now.  I am also on redmen but under a different screenname.

Marco and I have been in contact off of JJ, so he can confirm this great news for the JJ community. :-D

Speaking of Mid Major. I would like to see Lavin mix in a few mid major type kids to go with the 4 star athletes. We need shooters and more polished basketball players than just pure athletes. Team can't shoot so Lavin addressed this by recruiting two kids that he was never going to play. I don't want spot up, specialist shooters but rotation guys that can knock down shots.

Mid Major guys. You mean like Ron Roberts

What is wrong with Ron Roberts? I actually think he was better than Sampson

Nothing. Yet theoretically he took a step down in transferring to St. Joe's.That was my point. A guy like that could've fit in nicely with us.

Is it really that absurd though? This is a program that greatly underachieved this season, lost a player to the draft that essentially has no chance of being drafted, had their best player get suspended during the stretch run last season, rumors of other players being completely disenchanted with that staff, and having two frontcourt players on the roster for next season. If Lavin and the staff don't pick up at least one legitimate big to help next year (DeLaRosa doesn't count because he won't play more than 6 minutes a game next year if he even comes here) then there's no way we will be better next year than we were this year. So this isn't a program currently in shambles?

If Lavin and co. do manage to pick up a big that can help immediately maybe the team has a chance to succeed next year. If not we are looking at a senior class that won't go to the tournament in their careers and a program that will have to replace pretty much their entire roster entering the 15-16 season. Sounds like a program in shambles to me

better pull off a miracle and get Okonoboh after Rice goes to USF and he reopens recruitment
