Pressure and trap?  Might be nice, but Norm hasn't had an inclination for sideline traps, just pressure on the point guard in the back court.  It would be nice to see a variety of defenses.  Some zone, even... if the staff can teach it properly.

That would require actual coaching and teaching ability. . something the entire St. John's staff lacks..

Last year (I forget which game) they broke out a zone for maybe 2 possessions in a game.  It was the laziest zone I've ever seen.

But on topic, I guess it's another week and a half until we hear about Williams and whether the scholarship is saved.  So, assuming Norm misses out on Lance, there are a number of targets out there.  Parrom and Lawrence get a lot of pub, but what do y'all think about the bigs, David Bruce, Dan Jennings, James Padgett, and the like?

It seems that we are involved with a lot more prospects for 2009 than we were for 2008.

2008 it was Sylven, Mookie, and Kevin

2009 it is Stephenson, Parrom, Lawrence, Bruce, Jennings, Padgett

We are involved with more guys but I mentioning just the heavy hitters.

I would be completely astonished if James Padgett ends up a 2009 recruit...   he is most likely headed to prep school..     he is not exactly a star in the classroom...

2008: Sylven, Kemba, Devoe Joesph (4star), Morris twins (4 stars), Sean Kilpatrick, Pat Jackson, Samardo Samuels, and Greg Echinqiue (although i'm not completely clear his status)

we jumped on Devoe and Morris twins late. Also Kemba was out of the picture pretty early too. I don't recall going after Samuels or Echinque hard either and I don't consider Pat Jackson a heavy hitter.

We were all over and were right there for Kemba...    we were all over Morris twins hard when they re-opened...     we recruited Samuels the entire time...    no idea aboutr Echin...

The staff was on Joseph pretty hard, though.  Randomhero, you forgot the Jones boys.  Echenique was supposed to be am '09 recruit.  And is Dan Jennings going to be a post-grad?  Or a post-post grad?

The Morris twins were wanted but it seemed like St. John's got there too late, never a first option.  We were right there for Kemba?

Well perhaps we were after a good amount of guys in '08 however there seems to be more interest in return from the players in '09 then there was in '08

from what i remember we were kemba's #1 choice until Uconn came.  We were a finalist for samuels too.  we were a finalist for joesph (maybe #2 again) d joe visited sometime btwn 9/18 - 9/24.  and like pmg said as soon as morris twins went out of the commitment we jumpe right on them.  they visited in mid october.

we did offer ech but i'm not sure about him.

it's not a surprise/new thing to have top players to take a look at us.  that's why i'm not thrilled about what he's doing yet.  i want to see commitments.  norm as proven here he's a great assistent coach for getting 'em to look, but he's not a hc because he can't finish the deal.

Joseph was supposed to visit but I believe he never came due to scheduling conflicts

if norm thinks he he even has the slightest shot at some of those guys in the 2009 class i cant see him using the final scholie this year...i really hope he doesn't too...idt stephenson is comming here but how can you not ride that out and see...besides that i would love to add Jennings or Padgett

If worse comes to worst, the next coach will have a minimum of two scholarships to use.
