Bobby Hurley is attainable, relatively inexpensive, and exactly the kind of personality that could overhaul the culture and change local hoops perception. He is the anti Lavin He's just like Wojo, except for us he would come with head coaching experience and a local family pedigree. I can tell you that Marquette alumni settled for Wojo after making a real run at Tony Bennett and Shaka Smart. They seem to love Wojos energy and demeanor, which is in stark contrast to how Buzz conducted business. Bobby H currently makes less than Gene Keady did last season
Nice Chud! Like Bobby H myself.

Bring in a Hurley and try and do your best to convince Dad to come with as an assistant coach or keady advisor role.  One thing about that family is they find ways to win and are passionate about basketball rather than being famous.

What has Bobby Hurley done to deserve a job in Big East?

Danny just got an extension, makes $800K/year, and is in the middle of building something great at URI. Think he's a harder get.
Triple Bobby Jr.'s salary, overpay for difference making assistants (Bobby Sr. included), and still save money. Would be the right move on every level for the new Prez.

More than Wojo, Hoiberg, Richard Pitino, etc.

He's s risk, but the position we are in calls for a bold move. He'll have had two full seasons coaching at a school that no one cares about, and it really seems like they've improved under him. Let's see where they end up this year. Odds are, they'll have a happier ending than we will.

If that doesn't sum it up.
Do we know how much Keady makes?
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Bobby Hurley Sr. made a career out of screwing us...there's no way I'd reward his sons who haven't done anything to deserve coaching here.

With Pitino, it's business.  Bring in his son from Minnesota.

Would he leave Minnesota for this job ( I would but I am St. John's fan)?  He is making decent money in Minnesota where the cost of living has to be cheaper.  I like Pitino also.  There are some good options out there.

Three of the most important questions regarding our next coach:
1. Does Repole still care about this porgram?
2. If so, who does he want thats attainable?
3. What is he willing to spend to get that guy and a solid staff to come?

He is very happy at Minnesota. Unless they throw a ton of money at him, I don't see him leaving.

I don't think that's entirely fair. We misused Roshawn McCloud, and he left. Can you blame a player leaving after two years w Brian Mahoney? Elijah Ingram was a McDonald's kid. If anything Harrington screwed him over for doing what basketball players do on their official visits at schools like Syracuse and Uconn.
What has Bobby Hurley done to STJ that's so bad? What am I missing? Seems like we've screwed him over at least twice.

I want an x's and o's coach over a recruiter. The Coach is King in the College game, where the Player is King in the Pro's. We need a Coach that can install a system where we become known for a style of play. Also, I want be able to recruit the NYC-ST CHSAA. These kids tend to come from good families and will not have to worry about ineligiblity with these kids. SJU being able to bring kids from Long Island/WC would be a plus (type of kids Villanova gets).
My order
1. Jim Calhoun w/ Steve Pikell I mentioned this in another post. I hate UConn but, this guy is a Legend and we would still have the media attention Lavin has gotten us. Pikell would be on my list any way but having him as Coach in waiting gives us options.
2. Zach Spiker -The guy is winning games at Army so obviously knows how to Coach. He is a young coach  only 38 years old. Again X's and O's comes into play here and I believe he could get kids that go to Villanova/Gonzaga to come here. (Anyone who has a problem with wanting to emulate those programs is idiot.)
3 Bobby Hurley- I like Bobby more as a Coach than Danny. Won 19 games first year on the job and off to a good start this year.  We know Bobby's story as a player, tough as F'n Nails. Him and Repole also have the ponies.
4. Archie Miller- A solid record at Dayton went to Elite Eight last year.  No nonsense type and good pedigree
5. Ben Howland-  A winner, guy went to three Final Fours. His teams play tough defense somenthing they hated on West Coast. A UCLA Coach that can Coach. Only thing with him is that it did end badly for him at UCLA.

That's a pretty good list to me. I personally lean towards NY guys, but as we've learned time and again, that alone is nothing. Hurley, the more I think about it, would be both a name and an X's and O's guy. Something we've lacked since Lou C.

Pitino Jr or Massielo

I've seen Massielo coach exactly once.  When he was getting his butt whooped by Northeastern in Connecticut.  His sideline behavior is abhorrent. Completely ridiculous.  Why don't we just hire Mike Rice or that other idiot with the crew cut who's name excapes me?  I don't want to have to watch that sh*t show on the sidelines for 5 years.

You'd rather watch the shat show on the court for 5 years?

If Mike Rice was the coach, the players wouldn't dare miss practice.
