Rebounding is very important, but rebounding stats can be very misleading if you just look at the numbers.

Rebounding needs to be put in context of the rest of your team's strengths and weaknesses.  If you shoot a high percentage, and create extra possessions with steals (or in our case blocks) then you can afford to be slightly out rebounded.

Our problem, so far, has been that were not good enough in the other areas of the game to make up for a rebounding deficiency.   Rebounding alone won't kill us, but if we only play average defense, and are only average in offensive efficiency, then rebounding can be the final nail in the coffin.

But certainly Nova has shown, if you do the other things well you can live with being out rebounded.

Good post. If the ball goes in the basket, there are no offensive boards. Gotta shoot much better to have a prayer against Minnesota. Need Dom to play like that all the time, too. He's the glue guy. He's the real key to the season. No one else is good enough to play the 4.

Reb% is one of Pomeroy's "Four Factors."  Essentially Ken Pom thinks its one of the most important statistics

I know it's WAY too early, but we are at #45 currently.

We are also 314th in Off Reb % and 337th in 3pt %.  We are very strong defensively and our turnover percentage (another one of the four factors), is outstanding.

Real Question, How did Villianova rebound when they played with 4 guards? I don't remember it being a problem.
Joey Foye did not play like a guard. At times this year  Harrison reminds me of him.

Somebody realizes rebounding is important. Monday DLo had 17 of them (11 def 6 off) to go with his 31 points. How many guards can say that for any of their games?

Rankings and stats are meaningless after three games.
Harrison is already where he needs to be in terms of mindset for rebounding and loose balls and Jordan is aggressive by nature.  I think Jordan still can grow here and be a BEAST. I really like him in the post and as our SF.  He knows how to seek out contact.  Dom also has considerable room to grow as a rebounder due to his length and hops.  He just needs to get the beast/banger mindset.  Chris will grow as the season progresses.  There is nowhere for Dom and Obekpa to hide now and they seem like the kind of guys that needs that role to shine.

He wants to win and he knows what he has to do.  This is why I love this kid.

I'd argue that these stats are meaningful given that we've played 3 of the 4 easiest opponents on the schedule and that these areas are obvious deficiencies.

At the end of the day, a win is a win, but you can still take away plenty from these first three games. We start slow. That bothers me. But hey, we started hot under Norm and finished poorly, so let's be careful not to complain about everything.

We all know that if we housed these chumps in the first three games, it wouldn't mean much because we are expected to destroy a Franklin Pierce. Overall I expect a balanced seasoned team on the floor every time. I won't get that w Lavin. He screws with the line up too much. We've lost a key part of our team and we're probably going to lose Delarosa as well. That leaves Lavin with less line up screwing flexibility. Since he couldn't handle it last year, maybe this news isn't as bad as we previously thought?

Harrison has been rebounding as well any guard we've had since Bootsy. We need all hands on deck with our size issues. Jordan has rebounded well, but he could rebound even better with his talent. Jones was supposed to be a better player by now. He simply isn't showing any signs of that. Amar Alibegovic is on the bench. That leaves who? No one?

Who did Jones have 12 points against? The point I was making is that Jones' improvement is on Lavin, but truth be told, it's always on the coach and the player.

He can score a little, but the guy has no idea how to defend anyone. He should have been taught that by now. That's on his coach, and it's also on him. Staff should be working w him in practice, but she also be working hard on his own. I don't see either. We'll see.

The last few years, the team has depended on CO to block shots on help defense. If CO doesn't get the block this leads to weak side offensive rebounds as one of our smaller guys will need to rotate and box out a big from the other team. I don't see that happening. Guards need to keep their man in front of them and play good, sound defense if this team hopes to rebound with the big boys.
