Isn't Arbitello the same guy who said that St. John's coaches had never been to CTK---two days before Adonis committed?  I guess we went to FIU to recruit Adonis.

Arbitello isn't the guy to make up stories or hold grudges for no reason. He's a good dude. If he says something negative about somebody he has a reason

Is Arbitello the same child that was talking trash about Lavin on Twitter?

Arbitello does not like Lavin, but he has his reasons. Whether they are legitimate or not is up to you, but there are reasons

He's crying like a little girl on Twitter. That's exactly how Lavin should treat him.

If the best HS coach in the area that churns out high D1 prospects and currently has a potentially game changing prospect playing 10 minutes from campus, would you treat him like a little girl or would you try to mend fences? Arbs made the point that if Lavin doesn't like Arbs he can recruit Alkins through his AAU coach, which Lavin apparently hasn't been doing. This whole staff should be fired if they are not making every effort to get into the Alkins sweepstakes

He sounds like the kind of person you want to stay away from, but hey, I don't really know. I'm not interested in paying any more attention than I already have to a high school basketball coach. My only point is that if he's trashing Lavin on Twitter, he's gotta have something wrong upstairs. Clearly he deserves to get smacked.
I agree. I don't get the whole trashing someone on twitter

Plus didn't Maven tweet that the coach was the one who ratted out Adonis ?

That's really messed up if he ratted out his former player.

He did, but has moved on to trashing about an affair at SJU with names. She must've told him no and he got mad.

Everyone has an agenda.

You knew my point (as, you also have an agenda), and I disagree.  But that's subjective.

Quote
And many of the local schools would like to have Lavin mentioned as "recruiting" one of their players, because it raises that players profile, even if they end up going to a MAAC  A10 NEAC  school etc.
Also, for the most part Lavin fills his roster on the back end with guys like amar, hooper, marco, lipscomb, stewart, Henderson etc...favors or outreach to other constituencies.  Our 12 and 13th men aren't local kids, and that offends some people.

You have a good point with your latter quotes.   But he still doesn't give himself a good look, per his Twitter digs.

I agree.   I'm not a particularly strong arbitello fan or hater, I could take him or leave him.   But I agree he comes off looking very poorly based on how he acts on twitter.

Can anybody provide a logical reason as to why our staff hasn't put the full court press on Alkins? Sounds like the staff hasn't even expressed the slightest bit of interest in him. Usually when a top 20 kid plays 10 minutes from your campus you recruit him. Am I wrong?

Not making excuses for the staff's recruiting or lack thereof but

Do you know that he is older than his class?  Therefore dominating against kids younger.  I know 1 year doesn't say much but it takes away from it a bit.

Also Rawle went down to Florida for a bit then came back up to NY and there was talk that academics where a serious question mark.  Pretty sure it can be found in one of the threads on him on either board.  Maybe they are starting to learn.

The only thing I can come up with is that they reached out and he expressed that he has no inerest in coming to St. John's.  Lavin seems to move on if a kid shows no interest.  Otherwise, I can't come up with an explanation.

I know for basketball purposes he's not a junior, but I thought that was because he played Varsity as an 8th grader down in FL. Even if he is 1 year older, he'd still be a senior so not exactly playing against kids younger than him. He's not 20 playing against 17-18 year olds. He's still a stud and will be a great college player.

Give me a break with that academics theory. They recruited Adonis from the same school when he was known to have questionable academics not to mention some of the other many guys who were either ruled ineligible or left the program due to academics. They wouldn't recruit Adonis with his questionable academics and pass on Alkins from the same school who is twice as good as Adonis because of academics. What a joke of an excuse. Nice try though.

If Lavin is indeed not recruiting Alkins because he doesn't like Arbitello that is not only childish, its detrimental to the program. Not sure why anybody would think Lavin is blameless in this feud and that Arbs is the only villain here. Both him and Arbs need to kiss and make up for the benefit of both programs

Arbitello isn't a D1 college coach so he doesn't really deal with this type of criticism to the point where he can tune it out. He was attacked by some SJU fans on twitter and he responded saying as to why it isn't his fault. Whether you think those reasons are right or not is up to you. But if you thought you were being wrongfully attacked for something you would do the same thing

Only reason people went after him on Twitter was he ran his mouth about Lavin during BE media day.  If he didn't then nobody would have said boo.

Only person who knows why they are recruiting him is Lavin.  I presented some facts above.  I don't necessarily agree with the rationale.  As you mentioned we recruited an academic risk from the same HS.  If we got Rawle and he was ineligible everyone would forget about the fact he was good and would kick and scream he wasn't eligible.  Lavin just might not like his game for all we know.  I'll rip Lavin for his lack of recruiting all day long but I won't for him not offering someone.  If he's not offering someone there is a reason.

I've seen Rawle a few times and he reminds me physically of Lance.   I'm curious to see how he plays next year wherever he might go for his Sr. year.

Lavin clearly got ADR and didn't use the help of Arbitello.  Maybe Lavin (if here) will push for Rawle next year when Arbitello is out of the picture?  Who knows.

Didn't Arbitello call Lavin a phony or something.  And that he has no respect for NY hoops?  How exactly is that legit gripe for not recruiting one of his kids?  You seem to be an Arbitello fan.  Friends?  CTK grad? I respect you if so sticking up for someone you might know.  Where is TonyD when you need him.  I'm sticking up for Lavin :)

A high school coach taking to Twitter to call out a college coach is ridiculous any way you slice it.  He opened the door.

I'm neither a personal friend of Arbitello or a CTK grad. I met him a few times and he's a real good dude. Everybody I know in the NYC HS hoops scene say he's one of the best guys around and they don't say that about everyone.

The reason I'm defending him is partly because of that and partly because of my dislike for Lavin, I'll admit it. Arbitello and other HS coaches in NYC take it very seriously and I've heard multiple coaches in the area that have said things that range from Lavin has been disrespectful to NYC coaches to he doesn't realize the goldmine of talent that he's sitting on here.

I've said it before, there is probably blame on both sides here and both of these guys need to man up and put whatever ill-feelings they have towards each other behind them. Nothing would be better for St. John's to build a pipeline from CTK and that would obviously benefit CTK as well.

Again my sole issue is he should shut his mouth.  As a coach of HS kids and I'm not sure but most coaches teach in some capacity I think its wrong for him to take to social media to rip on someone especially in the same profession.  He alluded to something happening between them but then ignored the requests to say what happened.  Then don't open the door.

That being said there is no question Lavin has probably not hob knobbed as much as he should with the NYC coaches.

But also one thing I've seen over the years is NYC coaches will never be happy.  They think their shit doesn't stink.  They think they are better than they are likely.  Jarvis pushed them away.  Norm tried to bring them back in.  Then the ones who weren't brought in felt slighted.  Lavin tried the same thing with Hicks and it failed miserably.  I've had this discussion with a few other prominent current and former posters and I think most NYC coaches enjoy seeing SJU struggle.  If they had such a NY pride then grow some thicker skin and don't get their panties in a twist over every single thing that happens.  NY'er's are supposed to roll with the punches.  Anyway thats my rant.

Basically we kind of agree that both guys are probably somewhat at fault here and they should both just bury the hatchet and move on for the benefit of everybody.

While I can certainly see how some NYC coaches can come off as arrogant or whatnot, I think if they had a top player, they would want him coming to SJU. It's close for the family and the coaches to go see his home games. I think NYC HS coaches see SJU as NY's school and that SJU should be the place where all the NYC kids go. I'm sure they get frustrated when they see the SJU roster stacked with kids from all over the country but only 2 NYC kids. That has probably been the main factor in what has led them to root against this program

Re: NYC coaches allegedly being upset that Lavin isn't recruiting the city.
Where were these coaches before Lavin got here?  Where were all the top recruits that these coaches wanted to go to St. John's?  If you wouldn't send your kids here when we sucked, don't be shocked if we return the favor once we're relevant.
I'm not saying I agree with it, just presenting it as a possibility.
