I agree.  Never expected Briscoe though.  If we do not land Diallo, we will field a true mid major type team, no one over 6'5, 6 '6....Now I'm not counting CO (counting on him leads nowhere) and I'm not counting the Greek kid bc I have not really heard us linked to him, and UK has offered him.

I always felt like  we needed Diallo, Freeman, LoVett (eligible), Sampson, & probably a good deal more than that to compete next year.

There is some truth to that.  But that is easily correctable.  He is healthy and assuming he gets the extension he will be re-invigorated.  He knows how to recruit.  He got lazy in some respects.

He knows that can't happen again.  He is not stupid.  He does not want to be fired again.  He does not want to fail again.

And he knows regardless of the length of the extension the important part is the buyout.  He knows if we are here in 2 years lamenting back to back mediocre seasons he will be on the phone with ESPN looking for a gig.

His problems are correctable.  It is up to him to re-dedicate himself.

The question is can he salvage the '15 class?  Outside of a few kids, he's missed out on all of his major targets.

Besides IB, which other major targets has he missed out on in '15? Diallo's decision will be a big one.

We haven't been linked to anyone other than Briscoe and Diallo this year. Lavin hasn't really made much noise on the recruiting front since signing Jordan. I think it's only fair to ask him what's up? Why did St.John's stop recruiting?

Sampson was a major target also. So if you want to be fair, so far Lavin lost one and won one of his 3 major targets. Diallo is the swing vote.

I think you'd be right if he didn't take last year off, but he did, and now he has to make up for it. He got his extension, but he had better be prepared to work for it.

In my opinion, we would be best served with a balanced roster of 50-100 ranked HS prospects and an occasional top 25 when the opportunity is there.

Very lazy and not well connected at all, especially in the Tri-state area which is a sad indictment on the program.

The only shot Lavin has at keeping this program relevant will be a major upgrade to the coaching staff. To be fair, Keady is an old man and a debit to these efforts. He shouldn't be on the bench. The other bozos I was never impressed with and noone's even heard of them. Otherwise, this program will be a 15-18 meaningless win team over the next 4 years and Lavin will spin it that he's brought stability and a winning record. Smoke and mirrors.

See, there's a strategy.  Other coaches have done it, even Pitino.  Pitino has has the strategy to mostly go for recruits in the 20-75 range while at Louisville. He has tried to avoid one and dones, and the player history proves that.

The staff needs to rethink/reassess how and who they are recruiting.

Thought the offense looked much better this year. They moved the ball much better than in recent years. Keady teams always moved the ball very well. Problem was, we ran out of players. I'm not going to pin any of that on Keady. We are lucky to have his input. If Lavin doesn't listen, and at times, he's had a different philosophy, that's not on Keady. It seems to me they got what they all got could out of what they had.

Still, that doesn't forgive the rest of the staff for doing such a horrible job recruiting. Quite possibly the worst recruiting season in St.John's history.

A very poor recruiting year indeed. I thought the offense looked better this year. However, I can't say it looked much better regardless of what their stats say. I saw minor improvements but I wouldn't go as far as to say they were drastically better. There's definitely elements of coaching that are missing there. When guys play together for 4 years, they should know where each other is on the court before the play even happens. Too many times this season, they pulled their usual standstill routine where everyone stands around and one guy goes one on one.

SJU was a very easy team to defend if you go zone on them. When you have such a small lineup, this shouldn't be the case as they should be able to exploit their quickness advantage even in halfcourt sets and they didn't do that enough. Keady's days have passed him by. He hasn't been a HC in a decade. We all saw how the game of football passed Joe Gibbs by and that was after a decade away from the game. If Lavin's relying on Keady's in-game coaching and adjustments to improve this team, then the fans will be waiting a long time because it will be minimal improvement. If he's paid to be on the staff then I feel that position could be better utilized by a better in-game ass't coach or a better recruiter on staff. If he's not being paid to "consult" then it's fine. However that doesn't change the fact that their offense is completely sporadic and Keady is not the answer to their problems.
