No one may be hiring mullin this week but, again, dont we have to replace just about every minute played on our team this year?  Maybe its just me but if they are going to fire lavin i hope they do it soon so the next coach can start fielding a freaking team cuz recruiting period is running short

I could be wrong but isn't right now a dead period or quiet period or whatever it's called.

No one is hiring Chris Mullin this week.  We will survive

If we do hire Mullin and Jordan leaves, Mullin will be the best basketball player on the team at 51

If Lavin needs an extension ASAP in order to finish recruiting, that in itself is a reason to fire him!
It's April!   And he has one impact recruit.       Lovett may sign but hes not eligible, and it's unlikely any of the Europeans even play in the NCAA.   We are reaching for players at the last minute.
That's not a reason to give the coach a new contract, it's  a reason to fire him.

Moose, could be a quiet period but coaches accross the country are visiting kids (ex. everybody and their mom coming in to see chieck this week)

Lavin is seeing Diallo tomorrow. He's still a paid employee.  I would assume they are still working.  If they are seeing recruits, nothing has changed except for some message board angst.

Diallo to Coach.  Are u staying?  Coach to Diallo?  I have no idea.

That's really helpful.

How about the fact that some of the names getting thrown around are awful? Lavin has flaws, and you hate him, we all get it. But I am curious to see what the reaction around here is under Cluess or whomever in year two when we are 15-18.
Unless the school pulls something out of its ass and somehow gets Archie Miller or Mullin comes toting Slice, all other names lead back to the Norm years.

I think everyone's view point is a little bias because you are all super serious fans. Zach's articles every other day and the #Sjubb hashtag don't have that much reach.

If you were a casual fan or not a fan you might not even know about this going on.

Diallo to coach:  "Are you with Kansas or Kentucky?"    Coach:  "No"
Diallo  "Are you Fred Hoiberg?"   Coach:  "No"
Diallo "uhh, sorry, I think I have a dentist appointment I forgot about.  Later".

actually moose, i believe you are incorrect.  According to the NCAA’S recruting calender the recruting period ends march 31st 2015. hahahaha so its exponentiallly worse that we arent making a move now.  If we do really want to can lav and we wait much longer to find a replacement were gonna hire him during a dead period and give him a couple days to fill a team.

"one impact recruit" was mentioned in NY Post. Do you believe that to be true?

I for one like Samir Doughty and I think ADR in a sense is another incoming body. I think both those guys make an impact and contribute next season. Sampson is a tier above those guys.

No, I'd take him back and ask him to remake his staff with my input.   This is assuming I'm AD.
But I don't consider that a real possibility.

I think a more likely possibility is you fire him, hire Bobby Hurley.   He convinces Rysheed and Sampson to stay put, and recruits a JUCO big or a graduate transfer.   And we field a team that struggles next year like Marquette did this season, but is moving in the right direction.

Well then we're just arguing over the meaning of "impact recruit" Dave.
I think Sampson is great from all I've heard and read.
I wish I knew that Adonis was going to be eligible, but he could and probably deserves to be considered a meaningful piece to the puzzle.  Sure.
Doughtery I think will have an impact, but only because of our roster's deficiencies.   It'll be like Phil Greene as a frosh.   He'll have to play big minutes, but only as a result of our circumstances, not because he's ready to.

I'm just using him as an example.   I don't know these coaches intimately enough to know who is the smartest, sharpest communicator, and most honest to deal with.   But that person should be the next coach.

I think Adonis will certainly be eligible....the issue is what type of shape will he be in.  He'll be great backing up the Greek kid.

Contact period

The most wide-open time. During this time, coaches can visit with prospects and families regardless of location. In-person contact is permitted once per week. Note that a coach cannot visit a school multiple times in one week if it has more than one prospect.  Electronic and written communications are also permitted.

This is when tales of coaches praising Mama's cooking are born, during in-home visits.

Evaluation period

Considerably more restrictive than the contact period in one key way: off campus face-to-face contact is not permitted. That means no home visits. Coaches can still visit a prospect's school. Visits to schools are ostensibly for the purpose of evaluation. Prospects can visit colleges and receive written and electronic communication. Many scholarship offers go out in this period.

Quiet period

The quiet period tightens things a bit more, preventing any off-campus contact or viewing. Visits to the college's campus and written or electronic communications are still permitted.

Dead period

The dead period is the most restrictive. No in-person contact is allowed, even if a prospect makes a visit to the college campus. Written and electronic communications are still permitted.

Fair comparison to Greene. I don't think you're too off base there.
