Btw, Wake is up five over Indy to start second half.

I think Yogi Farrell will pull it out for them in the end.  Indiana would not be a good match up for us.

Sima impresses me more every time I see him play or hear him speak.  That is one poised kid.  The reality is that he should not be asked to play more than 10-15 mpg as a frosh.  This experience against Vandy will probably make a big difference in his development.  His baptism by fire this season will pay off handsomely in the future.  I don't think bigs asked to do too much too soon run the same risk of developing bad habits like guards and wings. 

Mussini is shattering every expectation I've had for him.  That is one shifty s.o.b. and he can really get to the rim in spite of him being the only threat to do so on the team. How can anyone not love those high layups off the glass at full speed over two 7 footers?  How do you defend that?  He was turning the corner all game on more experienced guards that should be playing deep into March.  He's a savvy player and is the perfect first guard off the bench type that can play either guard spot and provide a spark. That's not to say he's not a starting talent.  He gives me every reason to believe that he can and will improve this year and over the course of his career.  Sima and Ellison as well. 

This team does not get very many easy buckets, so they will really struggle when they shoot like they did today.  There will be more of this ugliness, but it speaks more to the lack of veteran talent than to the young core. 

As Desco posted earlier, we just need to constantly remind ourselves after every bad loss:  Lovett, Yakwe, Ponds, Owens, and the rest of 2016 class.  Just keep repeating that. 

agree with your points re: easy buckets.  when they move the ball or dribble drive and kickout, they get some good looks, but they tend to rely on iso when the shots aren't falling, which just compounds the issue because none of these guys, except maybe sima at some point, are a real threat in iso.  I expect mullin to drill them on ball movement and see that improve during the year

Wake beats Indiana.  We are in for a beatdown again tomorrow.

Neither am I.  I felt a bit more comfortable going up against Wake Forest.

Aside from us being overmatched in every way, you can tell Vandy was playing angry after being taken to overtime by Stony Brook. An angry Indiana will surely be tough.

Maybe we are better off with Indiana after watching that game?  They have no size and they couldn't rebound at all when Thomas Bryant (frosh from Rochester, NY) was out of the game.  He's 6'9 240 and their PF, Max Bielfeldt, is 6'8 240 but very soft.  I'm sure Sima will be happier to deal with that than 7'0 and 7'1 with another 7 footer off the bench he faced against Vandy. 

Vandy is clearly the superior team of the two.   IU does pass really well, though, and the guards can shoot.  If Sima can get Bryant in foul trouble it might not be so bad.

We were a lot better off with Wake IMO.  Fully expect a loss tomorrow. Would love to see us give them a game.

If we're within 10 points, once the final buzzer sounds, then that'll suffice.  Where is UMBC when you need 'em?

Ellison and Williams were injured. I don't think Williams ever recovered from his injury. Talk about building around Sima. Next year we will have Mussini, Lovett,Yakwe,Ponds, Owens.Probably Bashir or the German kid, Ellison, Williams and other recruits. That sounds like a good start to me.

I love that the starters were in for most of the game to get their heads kicked in and learn from it. That was a top 25 team, and we are a young team with a rookie coach. Both played like it. Invaluable experience

Can't argue that, but I think a closer game (10-15 points) against a ranked team could potentially go a long way after the beating they took today.  Indiana certainly looks vulnerable with Bryant out.  Unfortunately we will always look vulnerable this season.
