Agree that Jordan would have certainly helped this team, but that's a complete fantasy. Kid didn't have the discipline to do what he had to to be eligible. Blew off 2nd semester classes and no-showed all finals. Didn't matter who the coach was, he wasn't playing any more college ball. As for Obekpa, his shot blocking ability was phenomenal, but I was done with him when the seniors' NCAA chances went up in smoke because he pulled an Obekpa.
Disappointing week, but there's a long season left, and we have the team we have. We'll win when we hit 3's and lose when we don't. As has been noted, the 'Cuse win was both a blessing and a curse, as it unrealistically raised expectations. We shot great from deep, they killed themselves there, Hopkins stayed in their traditional 2-3 zone too long, and they didn't score for the last 3 minutes. A lot of things had to happen the way they did for us to get that win. We should certainly enjoy games like that but not expect them.
While it hurts to lose to schools history says we should beat, history ain't playing. Team showed more intensity than against IW, controlled the boards, had only 10 turnovers, and took 22 more shots -- almost none of them went in, we sucked from the free throw line, they lit it up from deep, and we lost.
Have to get LoVett on the court soon; he can't save this season, but he solves a couple of really glaring problems and will make the other freshmen, who should be all we're worried about this year, way better. Besides, I want to throw him into the Big East fire this season so that he doesn't have to be a freshman next year. Although they will be talented, we'll already have 3 new kids to get acclimated.
