What it might come down to is, "at what position can we find the best player".  If we get a good player at the point, maybe just take him.  If we get a good wing then take him. Same thing for a good big man.  But I really think our number one need is at the wing positions. (Mussini, especially if he improves, will be capable of handling a few minutes a half filling in at the point, as will Ellison and probably Ponds.  So I think we will be OK there) Then a strong big man with some offensive potential.  I think the guy from Ark St. would actually be a good get for us.

I really think every BE team needs at least 2 legit point guards. If LoVett should sits in his knee, his ankle or whatever, they are going to start Ellison the point again, and get destroyed by DePaul. The staff was handicapped because of time and players asking out of their LOI, but now they have time to make careful well thought out decisions. Out of Ellison, Ahmed, Alibegovic, Freudenberg and Jones, if we can't find 2/3 guys who can play the 3, then we don't need all of them on our team.

We couldn't dribble the ball this year, so IMO, they need to add a guy who can break the press. Grad student, juco, freshman, I don't care, but they need someone else other than Lovett. Can't take that chance again. That would be a terrible blow to the season if anything happened to Lovett, and because this is St.John's, we know it's always right around the corner. But the thing is, it's about more than just a capable ball handler. They need leadership. There is none now. Absolutely none. Grad students weren't able to do much with this crew, but that's because they weren't able to or didn't want to lead by example. If we could snag a grad student like Anthony Collins, a guy who knows how to run an offense, we'd be golden.

Since we screwed ourselves with recruits this year, it would be great to make up for it this year. Hopefully Calipari goes to UK and it starts a chain reaction of coaching moving around, and 18 year olds thinking they couldn't possibly go to the same school now that the coach is gone.

I agree that a steady backup PG is one of two remaining needs (ferocious rebounder being the other).

You must be the only person who thinks that landing Lovett Mussini Ellison Yakwe Owens Sima in 4 months represents "screw[ing] ourselves" with recruits.  That's at worst a solid foundation that now has Ponds Ahmed and Freudenberg to bolster it.

In regards to screwing ourselves with recruits, I was speaking only about Brandon Sampson who was allowed to back out of his LOI. Should the coaching carrousel continue, I'm hoping that last year's misfortune, could be an opportunity this year. Especially since there are no upperclassmen with leadership experience. Something that is being overlooked.

You sure about that one Poison?

I think in order to be a leader you have to understand the game, and Alibegovic and Jones were clueless. But kudos to Amar for waving the towel with passion.

Please don't mention Ellison as a PG option ever again. He's lucky to even have a reserve role on this team. He has a LONG way to go to develop into a solid BE player. PG? Never. Wing is his best position for now but he needs to get more confident, quicker and stop playing so timid.

I actually thought he progressed a ton by the end of the season.  Definitely not a natural point guard, but with another year of development, I could see him there.  Shocking because he could barely demonstrate a single basketball skill in the non conference schedule.

He progressed. That's true, but not into a point guard.

If he winds up doing any more "developing"  at pg next year we'll be in a heap of trouble.

He wasn't a point guard last year. He dribbled the ball up occasionally, and did a better job than the previous who was trying to it before him, and couldn't. If Mussini and Ellison are running the offense for any extended period of time next year, we'll win 2/3 conference games. I sincerely hope the staff isn't that careless.

I'm comfortable with Mussini/Ellison/Ponds splitting 6-8 mpg at point.  But we should get Lovett insurance in the form of a grad transfer PG.

OK board so if Amar and CJ are out, how do you distribute scholarships between 16' and 17'?

How many scholarships are then available?

Is the Spring Signing period's remaining 2016 HS senior class and transfer market pool deep enough to validate two additional scholarships to this current crop that we have coming in?

Sweet Sixteen is usually the time of year when things start to heat up in terms of transfers out, transfers in , coaching changes, draft declarations, signing periods, LOI's etc. By Monday we should be hearing some real good information

If those two were to leave we would have 3 ships open for this spring and all of next year. Meaning that no other ships come off after next season, unless any of the used ships go to grad transfers. It is my preference to have at least 2 ships for next year.  So that would mean 2 out of these 3 have to either go to a grad transfer or stashed, but IMO I dont see this staff stashing ships. Should be fun to watch. And by watch I mean Paultz avatar.

Lmao agreed Mase. A 5th year transfer rental keeps the balance somewhat intact. Couple that alongside another four year, hopefully impact freshman and it takes the 2016-17 roster to the next level. Stashing the 3rd scholarship for 17'/18'/19' would be best considering the abundant amount of fresh faces already being brought into next year's fold.

Matt told a room full of fans before the Providence game that they were always looking for ways to improve the team, so I expect them to add talent. Just hope that it can be talent combined with some experience as well.

If it's not a transfer then why is it in the transfer thread on both boards?  You guys are always playing with us.  I'm busy bothering Paultz about Greek transfers since Freak 3 is not a transfer.  Sorry.

Hey, he also said we'd have a top 10 class for 2016.  Frankly I love that we have a recruiter who has some balls and takes it personally.  He's aiming for a top 10 class so falling "short with top 11-15 is more than good to me.  We need killers like that.
