Must we debate this every year?

FYI - last year's SOS was 27th nationally.  The schedule is good.

Minnesota will host St. John's as part of the 2016 Gavitt Games, sources told @CBSSports. Official date and time is TBD. #sjubb

Why is that bad? Anyone but Rutgers is fine. I know Minnesota had a bad season . But they are usually ok. Should be a good game.

Plenty of teams in the big 10 I wouldn't have minded playing that isn't Michigan St or Minnesota. Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio St, Maryland, Purdue, Wisconsin

They dealt with plenty of injuries and off-the-court drama as well, so we should be seeing a better Minnesota team. I think the non-conference schedule will round out nicely.

And most of those schools/fanbases would give the same exact response you just did..

"St. John's? Really?"

Not my point, but you see what I did there..

We're in no position to be complaining about playing Minnesota.

Binghamton might be better than Minnesota

It is obvious that in these conference challenges they try to match up teams that are comparable in ability, that is best vs best, worst vs worst and everyone in between. That is why last year we played Rutgers and since they change up the match ups this year DePaul gets Rutgers.

Per Rothstein;

St. John's will host Binghamton as part of its 16-17 non-conference schedule, source told @CBSSports. #sjubb

I know we don't want to get waxed by Albany but this is painful.

Is Binghamton a D1 school?

Yes... going off memory... for at least 10 years.   I recall they made the tourney maybe 4-6 years ago too but there was a shakeup around then for poor admissions standards on the recruits

Binghamton has been D-I, in the America East, for about 15 years.  Generally at the bottom or middle of the conference.  The one year they were good - about 6-7 years ago - was when Gtown's Kevin Broadus was the HC.  They had a bunch of higher mid-major/high major kids transfers - kid from St. Joe's who was very good; Tiki Mayben (who had committed to Cuse but never made it there, I think) and a few others.  Made the tournament amidst rampant speculation that Broadus was bringing in questionable kids and turning his back on major transgressions -- all of which turned out to be true, and led to Broadus' dismissal from the program (he is back on Gtown's bench).  Was a pretty big deal in NY because of Binghamton's status as a great academic school.

They now Tommy Dempsey who I think did a pretty good job with Rider.  He's been there for a few years.

My recollection is that a decent kid transferred from Bing last year -- Reed or something - who had some interest from bigger schools.  Not sure where he ended up.

Waiting to hear who our marquee nonconference opponent will be at MSG.
We're on the road for Cuse, so it's not them.

Duke UCLA ?    Need one good nonconference game at the garden.
