D'angelo "3'lo" Harrison                                                - 79
Avery "Single game 3-pt record holder" Patterson - 72
Willie "Phillies" Shaw                                                    - 71

Shamorie "Ducks on the" Ponds - 55 with a minimum of 11 games remaining.
The race is on!  Does he get there?

Is this for a Freshman record or most in any season?

If this was Duke-related, then you could use Grayson "Jack Tripper" Allen.

I think as a freshman, Shamorie Ponds is better than those three players were as freshman, and all of them played on more balanced teams than Ponds does. He's streaky but the guy always contributes. Can't expect every game to be a college senior All American level, but some of his games have been exactly that.

The fact that Ponds is the best rebounder on our team is both impressive and sad at the same time.

These are the all-time single season St. John leaders.

Recall that the 3 pt. shot was not yet adopted by the Ncaa when our beloved coach was a player.

Was the team Dangelo's freshman year more balanced? There were really only 2 contributors on that team and then a whole lot of nothing. There are 4-5 guys that are capable of scoring on any given night this year.

Didn't they have to go with an Iron Six that first year? Pelle and Sampson did not qualify; Stith and Lindsey quit.

The Fresh Five + God'sgift was better players but I don't know if they were more "balanced".

For the first time ever we have 5 count'em 5 more than competent three point shooters.  And that's not counting Evander Holifields 100% clip.

It's crystal clear to even Mr. Magoo what our offensive strategy needs to be at this point.

I wish we would run more plays to try and get these guys open 3's. I still think a lot of these 3's are forced and we are still hitting them. If we could just get some more guys better looks we might be able to shoot the lights out more often. This is especially true for guys like Ahmed and Mussini who don't really have the handle or qucikness to get open from deep on their own.

This current team has better overall guard play, but they had Harkless and God's Gift inside. Garret and Pointer hustled on defense. They played harder than this group, too.

53 - 45 - 46 - 47

Carmine's peak blood alcohol levels following another Johnny loss?

No, the three point shooting percentages of our Big East opponents thus far.

What the heck is going on?  Collegiate 3 point shooting averages in general have got to be somewhere in the 30's.

3-POINT FG PCT DEFENSE    G    3FGM    3FGA    Pct
1.    Creighton    8    53    175    .303
2.    Providence    7    53    174    .305
3.    Marquette    7    35    114    .307
4.    Villanova    6    40    120    .333
5.    Xavier            8    76    213    .357
6.    DePaul            7    63    173    .364
7.    Georgetown    8    76    208    .365
8.    Seton Hall    7    58    155    .374
9.    Butler            8    71    179    .397
10.    St. John's    8    93    199    .467

We are at the bottom of the league by a lot.  The only team to shoot less than 40% against us thus far was Gtown in the first game and they shot a respectable 35%.  Add that to our league worst 3-pt shooting percentage and it's a recipe for disaster in today's game.

It's because we don't play zone and switch defenses.

bing bing bing - correct answer.  I know the man to man worked in louies days but with no bench , crappy rebounding and abysmal 3 point D you would think with the athletes we have playing a zone would be the right thing to do .

BTW a young suzanne sommers only to be topped by
