-The goal has to be sweeping this upcoming homestead. Laugh away, but Villanova is depleted with injuries to Gillespie and Samuels. We have a real shot at them in what should be a sold out Garden. It all starts Saturday. This season can still be turned around just as quickly as its collapsing, but it won't be done without Lovett. Enough is enough, he needs to play.

To say Villanova is "depleted" because they are missing two guys that average about 10 minutes per game between them is pretty absurd. Villanova has played a few close games or vs quality teams in non conference this year with both of them healthy:

vs WKU - Gillespie 12 mins, Samuels 1
vs Tenn - Gillespie 10, Samuels 0
vs UNI - Gillespie 10, Samuels 0
vs Gonzaga - Gillespie 7, Samuels 1

Though Villanova may not be deep, they are a well coached experienced team. We'll be double digit underdogs vs them at home and rightfully so

I'm not here to argue, they go 7 deep right now bottomline bring them on. #sweepthehomestand

Here's an interesting stat from today's game:

Amar Alibegovich 12 mins played
Kassoum Yakwe 2 mins played

I missed the 1st half.  Did KY get hurt or get disciplined?  Coach ordinarily wouldn't play Da Ali B six times more than Lube.

Neither really. Creighton made layups over him on back to back possessions and that was the end of that

Hopefully coach reconsiders.  He's a much better option than Amar this season. Amar's +/- numbers must have been awful in Omaha.

Hey Hey....Amar was on the floor during that 14-0 run!

I missed the 1st half and thought his second half minutes were brutal.  From what I've seen - KY brings more to the table.

So first off the fact that Amar was the leader in bench minutes ahead of either Yakwe or Trimble (not great but at least more competent than Amar) really hurt me. Made Mullin look like a nice person.

Secondly, Clark and Ponds missing huge free throws when they're both like 90% guys was brutal.

Playing at Creighton just is always a nightmare for us.

AA is awful. I take back anything positive I said about him as a frosh. He has demonstrated that he hasn't learned even the most basic tenets of team defense and he must hold the record for and 1's given up per minute. KY should get all of his minutes.

Especially the massage table.

That name is the gift that keeps on giving.  I love my nickname for him; "Lube"

That seton hall game hurt. Probably won't be touching this one but definitely won't be taking SJU money line

I’ve argued AA is our largest player, but shows no desire to play on the inside. He is not a good 3 pt shooter , defender nor rebounder. Why he can’t take a 2 pt shot is beyond me, he just continues to hoist 3 s. For those reasons I would play Yakwe before him and enjoy his cheering from the bench.

Ali B's will chucking 3's in hopes he hits the elite 300 SJU point club before year end

(he's got 275 for the record)

Amar is not the problem, he is the 12th man. The problem is, is that he's getting minutes. That's on the staff

GREAT point Ras. Of the 28 FGA Amar has had this year 20 of them have been 3's on 15% shooting. Yet he continues to shoot 3s.

Same case for Trimble as well. A supposed 3 point specialist, 35 of his 38 attempts have been 3's! 23% shooting! The heck.

Couple these two with Shamorie's 19-90 (21%) from 3 this season and you can understand why opponents are sagging on picks against us.

Our collective team 3p% is .325% GOOD GRIEF. When you then think about our rebounding statistics you understand where we're losing games. The rebounding is effort, the errant 3's is a combination of coaching and intellect.

It only took 12 million posts but he got this one right. Even if it was only to take a shot at Mullin. Roster management is a huge problem. Generally you would like to have as many guys coming in eligible that are leaving. Good schools seem to have no problem doing this. For some reason ST John's can't. Lavin had this issue as well.

We are a stupid team and poorly coached. How anyone not named Ponds is allowed to touch the ball at the the end of games is a mystery to me and every single opposing coach. This team has absolutely no discipline. Owens is allowed to take contested whenever he wants now? See you guys next year.

You are making me dislike Ponds.
He can't shoot and needs to take better shots. Missed a big free throw.
He is a good player but not a program changer. .
There is only so much you can do w/o Lovett they only have 5 quality BE players.
Terrible roster management.
Yakwe has gone from good to really bad to invisible.
Trimble is a freshman, but not a good one.
Amar....Staff's fault he is forced to play. See roster management issue.

Get Ponds off the best defender in the conference. Make them switch or get him going downhill off double-screens. Why is this not an option? Every single coach wants someone other than Ponds to beat them. This team can't dribble. That's not Ponds' fault.

He is a good player but not a first team all conference player and certainly not what you are pumping him as. You are drifting dangerously into Carmine territory with him. All that is missing is a silly pet nickname and you are there. Ponds would be great in an up-tempo offense with some athletic bigs that can score. Tough to play that way when you are playing iron man basketball. Ponds is not Hatten, he needs help. Doubt Lovett comes back and as well as he played I do not trust Ahmed.

20 6 & 5. That's during a shooting slump.

Good player, not Hatten or Hardy.

You said hes not a 1st team all conference player. Of the top 5 scorers in BE he leads all of them in rebounding and assists. There is no way hardy is a better player than ponds.

Hardy was best player on tourney team that won a BE game. Ponds is best player on 4 win BE team? 3 win?
Ponds is a good player. You and Marillac have widely overrated him though.
Marillac seems to have gone crazy so that explains that I guess. You named your signon after  the worst best player in program history, so I guess you can get a pass for overhyping a very good player this time.
Until he plays in an NCAA game I am putting him here.
Next tier good guards:
1. Hatten
2. Hardy
3. Bootsy
4. Lopez
5. Harrison
6. Ponds
Harrison jumps back ahead of him because I thought we 'd sneak in this year.

BTW Hardy is a big favorite of mine because he disrupted the Norm stink. Will always have a place in my heart. Same reason I will never hate Lavin.

How the F can u say he got it right we don't even have 10 men let alone 12 so how can he be our 12th man? 9th at the worst which he is. He should be Nowhere man.

Really? I get what he meant. Ideally Amar is a good 12th man. Not his fault he is 6th man. I think that was what Bluto was saying.
I have been saying the same for years. People kill Amar, why? What is he supposed to do not go in the game?

Maybe he should refuse to go into the game it might help the team.  How the heck do you play basketball for 4 years and get worse? And if he is not worse he should be put on choking precaution because he chokes just about every time he shoots the ball.

He is not good. Every once in awhile he plays well. Seems like a nice kid, roots for his teammates. Basically would be good 12th man. Amar was never very good to begin with. Yakwe is the amazing one. At this rate if he stays around only way he could be worse next year is if he actively plays for the opposing team while on the floor.

Cringe worthy, sorry.

Per Zach B
Chris Mullin said Amar Alibegovic over Kassoum Yakwe against Creighton was about matchups. Wanted another shooter on floor. #sjubb
