I really don't know the answer...

Does the NCAA have to give the player & school an answer either way before start of the year..?

No. They've made players wait well into the season for various determinations. Based on its recent rulings it would be bizarre to deny Heron. I think we'll hear somethin i the next 10-12 days.

Any reason why the wait? Facts are the facts. Not that complicated. Decision should take minutes.

Heron ran a camp this summer & apparently the NCAA wanted additional information last month. It appears to be nothing serious from what I gather.

I'm hoping that Cragg will help get Heron cleared for this season as one of his first marks at helping to overhaul the program.

I’ve given up on him getting cleated by January. NCAA always finds a way to #$%^ us. Not that we need help half time. We could screw up a 1 car funeral especially the last 25+ yrs.

Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't it seem like this is the only place where guys can't get cleared?

@AdamZagoria

Breaking:

Mustapha Heron has been cleared to play at @StJohnsBBall this season after getting an NCAA waiver, source tells me

The school will announce it Tuesday.

Huge new for Chris Mullin’s crew as they get Heron and return @ShamorieP To a strong lineup.

No excuses now.  NCAA or bust.  Honestly,  should be a 6 seed or higher too

Great great news. Tournament or bust.

Sweet 16 or bust.  If we are only making it every four to five years, a first round flame out isn’t good enough.

100% agree but I think the university would probably have a tough time firing the golden boy if he made the dance. Even if it was just a one and done.

Gotta walk before you can run. Just be happy if we make the tourney. That's a major feat for this program with the current regime.

"No way Heron plays this season." - Marillac back in June! http://johnnyjungle.com/forum/index.php?topic=10955.msg297200#msg297200

I couldn't be happier to be so wrong about my original prognostication. Heron has to be one of the three to five best players we've had in the last decade.

I disagree. This isn't a typical rebuild. We have three upperclassmen who were ranked inside the top 35 of their respective high school classes and a 5th-year senior and 3rd-year sophomore that played productive minutes in Final Four runs.

As Tha kid put it, a first round flame out isn't good enough for a program that makes the tournament everyone five years.

Lol So you're saying it would be a failure to not advance in the tourney and at that point, it's time to get rid of Mullin?
