You don’t know what you’re talking about. Boothe had the ball on a string. He had two good hands and he could pass, defend, and rebound. He was limited only by his height and his awful shot. He was a bad starter but a terrific backup.
Rutherford is barely half the athlete and he doesn’t have close to half of Boothe’s skill. I absolutely believe Boothe could have played 15-20 minutes for a Sweet 16 or Elite Eight team.
Rutherford MIGHT be able to play 10-12 minutes for a team that loses in the first round. That his absolute ceiling. He’s bad. I am one who believes you need 2-3 PGS and I still don’t like Rutherford. I liked the freshman that’s out much, much better.
Rutherford should be the third PG, but unfortunately, McGriff got injured. That will hurt us down the line, IMO.
Staff recruited him as an insurance policy (being a grad transfer, he really didn't block any other kid from coming here). I think he committed before McGriff or Dunn, but I could be wrong on that. Unfortunately, we've had to partially cash in on that policy.
I think it's wrong to dump on the guy, though. Kid works hard, and is doing his best. I don't think he was ever brought here with thoughts of being a savior. The fact that he almost had to be one is unfortunate, IMO.
