Steve Lavin, huh? To his credit, he apparently gives great interviews, and predecessor Norm Roberts left him a much healthier, cleaner program than Roberts had inherited. It is still devoid of players, though, and increasingly irrelevant (if not completely so) in the Big East and in New York, where it only plays in a legendary building which also hosts the conference tournament every year. Making St. John's relevant again doesn't seem like such an insurmountable challenge, but whether Lavin can shake off seven years in analyst chairs and off sidelines (and recruiting trails) to do it is the big question. Whatever he does, don't bet on him doing it overnight. This might be a three-conference-win team.

I agree the thread is early.  Some of those guys on other teams will be coming back (the Seton Hall guys).  Also, Ben Hasbrough had another year (I thought) for Notre Dame.  Rutgers is losing the recruit Birutas.

As for the Fanhouse ranking Marco posted, that's such poor work that it should be ignored.  Someone quickly piped up that St. John's can't possibly be 15.  The team was 12th this year; that's someone who thinks Lavin is a destroyer of programs or a complete nice person.  DePaul and Rutgers will struggle to put competitive product/ talent on the floor.

How do people still think Marquette won't be good?

I thought Hansborough had another year as well but he's listed as a Senior on ESPN and the official roster.  Probably will be a 5th year player next year.  That's why I post this thing.  Debate and corrections.

They've got another quality recruiting class coming in as well. Only Syracuse is bringing in as much talent as Buzz Williams is to the BE in 2010. ConU is the only one with the potential to overtake them.

They'll be good. They just picked up at stud JUCO.  Hayward was amazing, though, and they lose a few others that were very productive for a long time.  I think they'll slip a bit--hopefully enough for us to get in there. 

There won't be a game we can't win this year.  Syracuse is no lock for a top 25 team IMO.  They will have the worst outside shooting in some time there, and I can't remember a Syracuse team that did well without the ability to drain the deep ball.

I saw Marquette in person 3 times in 2 weeks. They were a very well coached team. However they only played 6/7 guys. Hayward was beyond amazing. He scored, rebounded, and guarded players 3/4 inches taller then him. He was also a huge matchup problem for other teams. I think they lose their PG also (who was nothing spacial). They only played one guy over 6'8 and he wasnt very good. They have some players who can hit open shots but without Hayward their wont be as many open shots. They do have the kid who hit the game winner against us. He is good but I think DJ is better. We played them tough twice and next year we have a coach.

They lost their starting center in November when Otule went down with injury for the season.  He's 6-10.  Also have a 7-2 project on the bench if all they're looking for is size.  They'll be very strong at guard with Cadougan at full strength, Buycks and Vander Blue who's a top 30ish recruit and Johnson Odom at WF.  They'll be good but Blue will have replace Lazr's points while Otule will have to replace his Rebs and D if they're going to match this year's surprising results.  We'll see.

I remember rumblings the second half of the year he say out when announcers and journos were saying that even with Flynn on the roster that Syracuse's best player wasn't even playing.  Now that might not have been expected of him when he transferred but by last summer everyone was talking like he'd be very, very special.

Waiters and Melo will be hard pressed to replace him and Onuaku.

I think the cuse will be a top 25 team. Scoops rpretty underrated and hell put up points. His cross over is so disgusting.

Marquete will be solid again. johson odem is poised to have a big year plus butler is solid. Theyve won without a huge inside presence before and theyl be good agian this year
