Why would Lavin tell Omari to get lost especially with only 1 scholarship and a less than avg big east roster? Reading these posts and seeing his schools when he was being recruited he was a very nice get for SJU. Lavin has been away from the game for 7 years and only got to see Omari when he was announcing and game tape from the studio and when he got to SJU. He has a guy from the NY area now on his staff and has seen Omari since he was young to tell him this kid is going to be a player and we need him. That is one of the reasons why Lavin wanted the NY ties. I doubt if the ny guys were behind Omari, Lavin would still tell him to hit the road. If Lavin told him he needs to be in shape to play and this kid is not liking someone in his face than it is on him and his mental toughness.
Didnt He also claim that he loved SJU and that he was ecstatic that he was coming here? Maybe he liked the school and Norm because there was no pressure on him to do what it takes to become a star. Does he think the grass is greener on the other side by going to another school? Who ever he talked to that made him want to leave woke this kid up because he now(from what I read) is back to his old form. It is a shame he is leaving but I would imagine with the buzz around the team now, he would be even more happy about playing at SJU. Easy for me to say because i am not in his spot, but transferring does not always work out especially with the schools he is choosing from. All except for maybe GW, he is going to have to fight for playing time the rest of the way out.
This kid might become a star and might not. Just because he is getting a fresh start, unless he is willing to put in 100% year in and year out he will get no where, I do not care if he goes to Iona.(no offense Iona guys)
