No surprise! Rise Academy Part 2!

“@AdamZagoria: Former #stjbb commit Norvel Pelle, whom I profiled this week, won't be cleared academically until at least August, sources told @SNYtv”
in all honesty and respect i truly believe that in this new age and generation a lot more kids may be developing learning disabilities in certain areas due to the increase in technology and the decrease of hands on do it yourself interaction. As much as social media and instant gratification outlets might make life a lot easier the reciprocal of that is the perpetual dumming down of our youth as well as society.

Interesting point Chille. Having worked in the developmental disabilities field for 30 + years, I am sensitive to such issues. In Norvel's case, however, IMO, academics aside, he does not seem to be dedicated
to working on his BBall development. He is probably a great kid, but I fear the parade will pass him by. Hope I am wrong.
its mind boggling that after a full year to get everything in order it still isnt enough for some of these kids.. shaking my head.

Unbelievable right.  I mean do you know how bad a student or lazy or completely disinterested in academics you have to be to be more than 1 year removed from your senior year and still are not qualified to play college ball? ??? ?
Well, we get to witness this train wreck that is about to happen but will soon end as it continues careening down the tracks.  Norvel is playing AAU ball close to home as we know from the SNY piece posted on zags, but the distrubing part is his AAU coach is trying to help him qualify with online courses, making sure "things are done right." Huh? - Things done right? That is ridiculous.  I am beside myself.  I cannot fathom how the 2A will allow this to pass as a qualifying standard.  What am I missing? What kind of hair brained advice is Norvel currently receiving?  will that strategy actually work?  I say no.

BTW, the talk of social media, constant cell phone use, etc, in today's ever fast-paced world is leading to brain fatigue, and it's speculated its hypothesized by researchers that our brains may eventually evolve to handle this constant bombardment of stimulation.  From my simplistic view, it seems to make sense.  But a lot of headaches will occur on the way to that place!

He wasn't that far from being qualified when he was deemed inelgible by NCAA, I can't believe that he is not there with the half a year spent at Phelps and now doing these online classes. Pelle should find the best Juco he can find and get on with it.

Bad decision making and poor mentorship for this young man has cost him dearly.  It is a shame.

Garrett and Sampson deserve a ton of credit for working through their academic issues to qualify and remaining determined to make a go of things at SJU.  I have a lot of respect for Lavin too for working through the challenges when they didn't qualify.  He stuck by them and saw them through.  What an excellent leader and quality person.  As I have said before, this is the SJU way, focusing on "outcomes" and being student-centered.

Having said all of the above, if Pelle were to make it to SJU he would get a ton of support and there is no doubt in my mind that he would be a huge success in the classroom.

Another kid wandering around and squandering talent and potential! Official visit??

“@UnderTheEl: RT @RunninRams3 After having "really good" visit to NMST this past week. '12 CA C Norvel Pelle will be taking his next official to DePaul”

Article referenced below outlines his academic deficiencies. IMO, JUCOnawaits.
“@ECoastBias: @seedeez27 @FoxberryJam Also on Pelle as an academic risk, from the San Diego paper: http://t.co/lqpzt2mu

Seems odd unless its an unofficial visit. If its official, why would Depaul waste an official on someone that everyone says has no shot of qualifying. No skin off Norvels back because he is getting a free trip to Chicago. Or is Depaul just trying to get in with him with hopes of getting him out of JUCO in 2 years? Just curious.

Looking  more and more like the 2 year wandering in the desert trying to get qualified journey of former Lavin recruit and St. Anthony's center Josh Moore.   I believe St. Johns was even in on that particular recruitment.   Michigan finally found a way to get him past admissions, but his college career only lasted 1 season and part of another - 29 games total.  He averaged 4.5 pts and 2.5 rebs.   He was dismissed from the team after 3 games of his soph season.

Hope Norvel fares better....

A free trip to Chi Town. Italian beef, steak, hot dogs, deep dish pizza, blues, clean sidewalks and nice weather. I'd go.

A place outside NYC that Poison respects! By my count, that makes . . . one. ;D

Looks like he will be eligible for 2012.

2012 Norvel Pelle tells @TheLoboLair that he plans to be eligible for 2012; has visited both New Mexico State & DePaul (1 of 2)
(2 of 2) Pelle says he is hearing from most from Memphis, Missouri, UConn, UTEP, Florida St & New Mexico. Mizzou may see 1 of final 3 visits

To be fair.

He 'planned' to be eligible in 2011 also.  We know that worked out well.

I respect Chicago. Depaul would recruit better than they do, but they play in the middle of nowhere. Near the airport. No one cares. Like us, they've had bad luck with top rated talent either not panning out or leaving early, yet for them, the coaching carousel is still spinning on the north side. I still can't figure out why they are in the BE.

Would really prefer not to see Pelle go to Storrs.

Based on their academic situation with APR I don't think they can afford to have that risk.
