What annoys me is that two loya, long suffering seniors, Evans and Burrell both lost time to Polee. Then, at the first sign of a little competition and adversity he goes running back to his Daddy in Cali. Pretty selfish and spineless to me. He could have at least given it a year and seen how it worked out. Instead two of our seniors had they're cereers derailed. I don't wish him or his father well. If he's really NBA material he's going to have to prove it somewhere and it's not going to be handed to him like Daddy wants. We'll be fine. Don't much care about him.
Exactly what I expected out of you.
I don't deny that he has a point, even though it is a bit extreme. I think we want kids here that relish some competition, not ones that need their pops to manage playing time issues. The ones that don't want to compete will be transferring sooner than later ala Polee. I think it says a LOT about our incoming guys, as they all know the competition issues coming in, and are coming here as buddies, ready to compete both against each other at times and together as a team.
I wish Polee the best, but in truth he got a ton of PT last season as a freshman amongst seniors, and now with some added talent he isn't confident that he'll be able to beat out the competition, even with a year under his belt at either the SF nor PF spot? That isn't a good sign IMO. I know his claim is mother's illness so we probably should give him the benefit of the doubt, but like I said, I want to see competitors here.
Using lacrosse as an example, if you look at the top schools, they all have one thing in common. They have better players in their third lines than some lesser ranked schools have in their first lines. They have All Americans on the bench, with a common goal which is playing with and against the best competition. As a result, those teams are always, always on top. I envision the same scenario at St. John's. Why are the Carolina's and Kansas' always on top? Because they have talent at all spots and talent on the bench as well.
It seems to me that Dwayne just never had that eye of the tiger. Hopefully, he finds a better situation for himself out west. Unless he goes to a lower level of school though, he'll be getting plenty of competition for PT because eventually, he's going to have to outplay people for it and produce on the court.
