Lindsay has a lot to learn. Hopefully, now that there has been a large enough sample of his game, the staff can go to work on correcting it. In fairness, it's not like any of our guys played well outside of Gift. That was basically the only bright spot.

The match up zone wasn't terrible, but so often it left a Kentucky player wide open with the ball under the basket. It's sad that we have to spend the next two worrying about Detroit and Fordham, but we clearly do.

I've been a big critic of the type of zone they've been playing the last two years, but I thought last nigh they actually played it really well. Much more under control, not as much over rotation. The problem is that we've always got at least one undersized guy on the back of the zone and they had a 6'10 guy with the wingspan of a condor. Kentucky did a great job of finding that mismatch and exploiting it. Nothing you can do about that.

It'll be that way many times for UK throughout the season.

In addition to Wood, I agree we could use a PG, a shooter and 2 big bodies.  Right now we need a lot as we're only playing with 6 of Lavin's recruits and 7 true schollie players.  We'll be a force starting next year but people must remember that this season is a true rebuild.  We have to replace the entire roster.  Even without our setbacks of losing our coach for a while due to illness and 3 top 60 guys to eligibility issues, it would have been a massive rebuild.

All those guys expecting to go into Rupp and lay a smack down against a much deeper, more experienced and extremely talented team are not being realistic.  I would have liked to keep the win to 10-15 points, but we didn't have enough horses and that was obvious.  We also didn't have our coach out there.  One year and a few more players.

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do this season.  It's going to have to be Greene, Nuri and Stith.   I agree that through 8 games none look like great options.

Greene can handle pressure, is good at not turning it over but he isnt really a good distributer.  He has 12 assists in 200 mins of play.

Nuri turns it over too much and isnt a great decision maker at this point and Stith is Stith.

I'd like to see Greene as the full time guy and hope he can improve as the season goes on and help for next year b/c I wouldnt count on a better option being here.

Unfortunately I think your right. Looking at rivals, most of the 2012 PG's already signed. Greene it is

Rumors are Oregon will soon get smacked by NCAA.  Might open up Artis.

Also take Aaron Craft.  Rivals didn't rank him highly at all and looked what he turned into.

WE are in dire need of a point guard. Not 1 player on this roster CURRENTLY resembles a PG.

Fixed that for ya.

I think Greene definitely has the makings of a classic point guard. Average to above average handle and physical ability, tough, can shoot it well enough, good decision making for a frosh. He was the most unheralded of the group and has been the most pleasant surprise, IMHO. Probably not a future pro, but could definitely see him as a PG on a team that goes deep in the tournament as an upperclassman.

To me, Nuri is just the opposite- a victim of expectations, specifically the talk about the NBA which is clearly nonsense. We all know what he doesnt do well right now. But what he doesnt do well can be taught, especially if the kid is bright and is a willing student, which by all accounts he is.

His quickness, without and especially with the ball, his ability to get to the rim...you cant teach that. He took two years off from organized ball, then played JC last year where I'm sure the coach wasnt encouraging him to drive and dish, or pull up in the lane, or stay after practice and shoot 200 free throws. He has to learn how to do that, and watching it will be painful at times. But it can be learned. Whether it will be or not, time will tell.

According to Rivals, best PG's available are Nino Jackson,Ray Lee and Alex Anderson.  Anyone have any others in mind?

Shooting is a huge problem as well. Now all the kids will get better and the struggles should have been expected but the shooting is a little surprising. No one son the team shoots a real jump shot. Pointer shoots a line drive but at least he actually leaves his feet. Who is our best shooter? Greene? As far Harrison, the staff is going to have to change his form. He is not going to be able to get that shot off with any consistency. Unles you are super quick or have an offense geared to you coming off a hundred screens it is really hard to shoot a push shot with any success.

In hindsight, this team could really use Momo Jones

Guys the YouTube subscriber " thebasketballdiary " has updated his videos with a few recent scrimmages, Christ the king has a couple to get a better look at Isaiah Lewis and one of those is against Cardozo featuring jermaine Lawrence. Let me know what you think.

Speaking of guards, I wonder if we express any interest in Calvin Newell Jr, an excellent guard transferring from Oklahoma to be closer to home in Philly.   NYC is close.  He's a great shooter, assist man and is a burner built for Lavin's system.   Love to snatch him up if we could. Anybody know where he's looking to go?

How do you know we will ne a force next year.  Even with Jakar and Pelle, it will be their first year as well.  Now perhaps two years down the pike is another story.

I think we have a nice core this year and were close to beating a few top 20 programs already this season.  Next year, our core of 6 or 7 scholarship  players will have an entire year of experience behind them and a year of weight training as well.  Add another 4 or 5 quality recruits and I think we'll be a force next year.  What we're missing this season is mainly experience, depth and some more size up front. Most of those things should be significantly improved next season.   Lavin recruits athletes that can compete with almost any teams athletes.  On e we have the depth and they learn the system, big things ahead.  People must just realize that this year we Re in the middle of a massive rebuild.  We won't have to do such a massive rebuild in the near future.

where do you see these 4 or 5 quality recruits coming from? right now we have 1. i am assuming you are including gathers, pelle and sampson but that is a big assumption. i do agree though, the core is there, we just need to add KEY pieces now - like height a shooter and a distributor

Woods is a kid with great athleticism who can shoot and score pretty well.  I'm betting we grab at least one of Gathers and Sampson.  Lots of kids rise to the top over the winter and there are plenty of big time talents left.  If we just add woods, gathers and either Sampson or pelle, we're in fantastic shape.  Staff can feel free to find a sleeper shooter type or a pg that has a strong winter.
