We can't hit the side of barn right now.

By know means am I saying Edwin is a #1 option. But I think Lavin should grab a local recruit or 2 (that is eligible) who will come in and contribute for 4 years and play with a chip on his shoulder. Edwin is a great example. Lavin made a huge mistake by taking too many risks and we're paying the price without able bodied players.

Please Baldi.

You just a flavor-of-the-week fan.

Next time some brother has a good game, y'all be like: "Hey, why isn't he wearing red?"

Flavor of the week Fuquan continues to impress. Now avg 15ppg

Slightly off topic... during the game against Louisville, one of the guys who was calling the game was talking about Garrett and mentioned that he is not taking up a scholarship because the Reds were picking up the tab. Is there anyone who can confirm or deny this?

I believe that the Reds are paying for him but he still counts towards the 13 scholarships.

I don't understand why Garrett would count towards the scholarship limit, strange NCAA rules
and if recruiting someone requires them taking up a scholarship, why does andre drummond get to pay his own way. wouldnt amir be able to do the same next year if he chose to?
During the game yesterday the announcers saidthe reds were paying Amir's tuition

I didn't hear the commentators mention that, what I heard them say was that although the Reds signed Amir, he hasn't received any of the money yet as it would affect his amateur status and his ability to play for St. John's. They went on to say that Amir plans on beginning his professional baseball career "next year". Not really sure what they meant by "next year" but was curious if that meant Amir will not be playing basketball anymore or if he did, would he no longer be a scholarship player? Does anyone else recall this being mentioned?

FWIW I don't think the announcers had any idea what they were talking about with regard to Amir and the Reds.  All STJ fans need to know is that Amir counts as a scholly, regardless of who pays, and is eligible to play basketball.   He's going to play baseball in the summers until he decides to commit full time to one or the other.  I thought he was going to start getting paid when he went to camp this spring/summer but what do I know.

That's what I heard as well.   He was going to play in one of the short season leagues that plays from like May to August, and would get his first check then.

But he's definitely a scholarship player, and I heard that was because we recruited him therefore he could not be a walk-on.

And regardless of our situation.... the Drummond thing with UCONN is shady no matter how you look at it.  First Bradley wants to willingly become a walkon and then the #1 recruit in the country is a walkon?   Either way that smells of bs

UNless the Big East has some wildly different rule than the rest of Div-1, that can't be true.  There are thousands of examples of recruited players who walk on.  Melchioni at Duke helped K get around the old yearly limit (4/3 rule) on sholarship starters.  At UCLA under Lavin, Sean Farnham, Moose Bailey, Jon Crispin, Brian Morrison, Kevin Daley, and Todd Ramasar were all recruited players who started in Westwood as walkons.  Then, of course, you have the IVY, which HAS no scholarships - everyone's a walkon.

I've been looking for sources to backup what I said, and I can't.  So, you may be right CR.   I just remember hearing that from different people when Amir was drafted.  I'll try to take a look back at his recruiting thread when I get a chance.

Heard this as a rule in college football maybe rules are different for college basketball.
