You (royal) have to distinguish between now and then. Phil Greene, right now, stinks. He should not be playing and in a perfect world, like most freshmen, he'd be on the bench. (Of course in a perfect world my bong would have a vagina, so there's that.) However, posters want to be able to say in two years, when he doesn't stink, that they recognized his potential three years ago. Hence the Greene-dulation, which in other situations has led posters to laud inter alia, Malik Stith, Tomas Jasilionustein, and Phil Wait. Because everyone wants to get in on the ground floor. On the other hand you (not the royal) are being a little hard on him. He's long, he's athletic, he gets to the basket, and he shows signs of aggression on the offensive end. His defense is not atrocious. Yes his handle is a little sloppy and yes his shot needs work. He seems a little crazy on the court and for that reason reminds me a little of .... wait for it ... Bernard Rencher. It coul be much worse, and has been.
He is just a rough watch playing the point. I know this is not his natural position, but it is the position he is forced to play and we are forced to watch him play. Does Greene have potential? Sure, as you mentioned long arms, good athlete. Can he get better? I would hope so. My point is we need another outside shooter. Eventually Lavin will have to address that. Harrison, Branch and outside shooter X will severly limit Greenes minutes even if he does improve.
