Last September, when voting to add Syracuse and Pittsburgh to form a new 14-team conference, the ACC's Council of Presidents voted to up the exit penalty from $12-$14 million to $20 million.
Pitt and Syracuse this summer negotiated $7.5 million Big East exit fees down to $5 million. WTF??? ACC just raised theirs again to $50 million. By comparison $5-7.5 million is chump change, yes. Once TV contract is finalized BE should change exits fees on a system based on sports played between football and hoops and based on the revenue schools get from the TV contract for playing those sports. ACC seems to think 3 times the annual TV contract revenue is a fair exit fee.
