Bobre is still pissed that Evans was sat. Never mind that he sat for not buying into what the team was doing. He is complaining about Harrison sitting because he wants to throw Evans into the conversation, which then allows him to attack Lavin because he still thinks Mark Jackson should have been hired. The same Mark Jackson who has been shitting up the court in Oakland.

And you're pissed because you haven't had an original thought since you showed up here.  Glad you've been following my logic so closely though.  Too bad you haven't been able to attain objectivity in your analysis of the coach and the program in general. There weren't too many like you back at UCLA when he was released. I'm still waiting for our permanent return to prominence.  If you really feel we're at that point that's fine but the facts and numbers indicate otherwise so far.

Everyone needs to relax, DeAngelo needed a slight "course correction" and Lav provided it with a wake-up call... no one will even remember this when he is leading the BE in scoring & leading us to the NCAA's. :coolsmiley:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe when Sean was interviewed after a game he did well in, he, in effect, said it was he who had gotten in line with the coaches/program after wrongly trying to go his own way.  Which is how it has to be.  Going by how Lavin praised Dlo's handling of the situation, I would presume Dlo isn't going into a funk about his benching for whatever transgression he committed.

You are correct.  However, there are some on these boards that believe Sean was a victim of injustice and it was Lavin that needed to see the light in regards to Seans overwhelming talent.  ;)

I mean, look at this guy.  What could he possibly know about coaching with a mug like that?

I notice you didn't even attempt to deny anything I said, instead opting to switch the topic.

Pretty sure you are the one who repeats the same three things over and over again, year after year, so you really are the last person to comment on anyone having original thoughts. How long has Lavin been here? (And feel free to subtract the year he sat out from your tally.)

Same goes for objectivity. I'm sorry that you lust for Mark Jackson and those tight shorts, but do you really think he would have done better so far? He definitely would not have recruited better. FYI: He's not going to survive until next season, so if you want to see him coach in person, get those tickets soon.

As far as UCLA is concerned, I'll leave it up to crgreen to post his career record.

Let's take an objective look at what happened.  In season one we had nine returning seniors who were yalented enough to make the dance and it happened.  Polee, our prize recruit flew the coop and the following year's prize class imploded.  Steve got sick and Dunlap got us 13 wins losing Nuri and Stith in the bargain.  Then he too flew the coop.  Season three's class class is getting shaky and our best player is benched.  I've had season tickets all along but I'm still waiting for signs that our problems are over.  It's unfortunate that Steve went down but to say that nobody else could have done better in his absence is baseless.  I haven't lost faith in the program but the nonsense about Marco and Sanchez and DLo's benching are hardly encouraging and can't be ignored in evaluating our status for the coming year.  Pre-season predictions have been lackluster to say the least and right now I really don't know where we stand.  I'm very glad Steve is now healthy but we're a long way from raising flags and waving pom poms.  We'll know a lot more in March and hopefully all the pessimism will be behind us

"season three's class is shaky"  said a prior poster!  HUH?..despite the uncertainty with marco and orlando any team in america including the one in lexington would drool to have christian, jakar, and chris.

Come on bobre. Objectively, that team had never made the tournament before. "talent" is measured subjectively.

Objectively, Polee was ranked lower than 6 players currently on the roster. Do we then have at least 6 "prized" recruits at present?  Objectively, 6 is better than 1.

Objectively, Dunlap left to take a head coaching job at the highest level.

Objectively, we cannot know who If anyone could have done better. But, objectively, we know the results thus far are better than the prior regime's in terms of tournament appearances, wins and losses, and recruiting.

Your opinion is not ridiculous, it has some merit. But don't characterize it as objective.

I don't think you are giving Lav and the staff nearly enough credit, Bobre.  I agree that we are not where we want to be by any stretch, but our staff did get the most out of a senior class that had never won before, and several of them are making money in large part because of the staff's development of those guys.  With a different staff, that team could have just as easily been a borderline NCAA squad or been NIT bound.  Prior to the 2010-2011 season, did anyone think we were going to beat as many top 10 teams as we did and be a legit top 20 team?  Even the most ""glass half full" poster wouldn't have predicted that.  DJ went down, which was a killer, and we drew a bad match up in the first round of the tourney (going West to play the Zags who played a great game and hit 3's).  Last year sucked, and the ineligibility of a few guys hurt, but Lav getting sick was nothing he or the team could control.  We took a risk with Pelle, but teams in our situation back then would have done the same.  And we had a player not projected to go to the NBA end up being taken 15th overall.  Moreover, exposure for our program is terrific right now.

Fact is we are getting the best recruits we have had since Fran.  Players who would have never considered St. John's are coming here and the program is in a lot better shape.  Good things have happened, but even better things are on the horizon.

All I'm waiting for is a decent season without all the drama Yes we have some nice recruits but schlepping in to watch six players last year fighting a losing battle is not my idea of fun.  Now, all the BS about the NCAA, red shirting. benching DLo etc. doesn't axactly light my fire.  We have NO laurels to rest on under Lavin and all the euphoria about new recruits is a story still waiting to be told. I've always believed SJU is a sleeping giant and that a lot of competent coaches could succeed here. We finally have one and now it's time to make it happen.  I'm very tired of the yearly drama about recruits and I'll never buy the necessity to bench quality players.  If we're really a solid team things like that shouldn't be necessary.  Just my opinion mind you but either way certainly nothing to be optimistic about.  Reality is what it is and I want to see a cohesive group perform to it's capabilities.  Is that really too much to ask?

I think you are a bit pessimistac. But it is true, that  the benching of DLO and the uncertainty of the jc transfers, are putting a sour taste in my mouth. We have a lot of talent. Im not saying we will make the dance, but this team should be fun to watch.Fortunately Jones  is a pleasant suprise and I think CO is going to be a great talent in a position we need.

Bobre, it seems that you are forgetting how putrid things were with this program.  Annual transfers happen to every program.  Benching a kid for two exhibitions is not even a blip.

Think about 2003/2004.

This year is year two of rebuilding.  The worst thing in the last two and half year were last years bogus rumors about Lavin.  I'm expecting this team to continue to have growing pains, but the future is brighter than it's been in a long time.

I'm really pretty well aware of all the putrid things.  All I'm saying is that the hoopla about them being over is just a bit premature.  We haven't proven anything yet and I prefer to wait until we do to rejoice.  There were a lot of guys here who insisted that Lavin's first year with Norm's players should be ingnored.  Then, when things worked out it was a different story.  Then when cancer struck we had to ignore another season and play with six kids - something I've never seen in big time D1 hoops.  So, in effect we're starting all over again.  I hope it all works out but I'm going to wait until the games are played to rave about things.  Sorry, but decades of disappointment are hard to overcome.

I can't blame you waiting to see this group win games.  The crazy situation from last year seems to be remediated, and I'm betting that this staff is going to win here on a consistent basis.  We'll see improvement this season and more success in the seasons ahead.

As for the transfers, players not qualifying, and even the benching of tempestuous talents.....that is life in the fast lanes of NCAA hoops.  It is just a sign that we are getting players at the level we've not see here in a long time.

If having Moe, Dlo, Amir, Dom and Greene added to the team is implosion then I fully support an annual implosion.

Well, after the two Charlotte games It looks to me like DLo would be the last guy I'd bench on this team.  I just don't know where Lavin gets this stuff.  Two years ago I watched Paris Horne griping at Lavin when he didn't start.  Evans wasn't the type to gripe but he wound up being one of Lavin's all time best reclamation stories.  Source - Steve Lavin.  Nothing wrong with discipline but pick the right guys.  We've clearly got work to do and I hope that shooting ourselves in the foot is behind us.

The coach is in charge. The players, no matter who they are, need to learn that, and respect, or yes, they should and think about it. Act like a child, get treated like one. Remember how Felipe ran things as a freshman? How did that work out for Brian Mahoney?
