Oh that Geno!

http://espn.go.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8761988/geno-auriemma-connecticut-huskies-catholic-7-made-their-money-ran

"The Catholic schools did a really good thing. They stayed at the table for as long as it took them to make as much money as they could. And once they saw all the money running out, they decided to go play somewhere else," he told reporters. "Had some of them managed to vote appropriately over the last 10 years, we wouldn't be in the situation we are now."

There are still plenty of things left to negotiate before one determines how the pot will be split. The biggest one being who will retain the Big East name. Sure the current BE will use that to cut into our split.

Thought I read 42 was the cut for just the 7 schools.  Its more overall.

Someone's assuming 70% of the $60 million in exit fees and NCAA units based on equal shares to the 10 full time members left.  As STJFAN said the hoops team want to keep the name.  That'll reduce their share though how valuable it is to a conference that already has teams in Boise, San Diego, Dallas and Houston and is looking at teams from Las Vegas and Fresno is questionable.  Just bully/petty leverage at this point.

That's what I read as well. I just believe that the 7 schools cut (42) cant be determined based on the outstanding issues at hand, main one being the Big East name. Whatever the final figure is, its safe to assume the new conference will be in good position.

Personally, I wasn't expecting $6 mil/school and from what the writer says is a "conservative estimate".

I don't see football schools battling for the Big East name.  Big east football is a national joke.  They need to run from that name.

Agreed, plus for the remaining football schools, the term "Big East" has absolutely no meaning geographically to the current conference composition.

Arguably our makeup might not make sense geographically either though.

I agree. BE is synonymous w great BB and mediocre FB. Since the FB schools are trying to expand W. The BB conference should retain the name and the FB conference should be called Big America.

BE football dont need the name.

But its still an asset of value that they can use as leverage. Dont think they just hand it over.

I think we all leave after next season, including Notre Dame, Louisville, Rutgers, and of course Syracuse and Pitt.

Wondering what kind of discount that Louisville and Rutgers gets since they would be letting out the Core 7 early.

Of course Core 7 does not have to pay an exit fee because they left as a group

See the football schools getting a larger chunk of the leagues assets for the league name and the giving up of MSG for the tournament.

I don't think they are giving up MSG.
MSG has out clause if the conference makeup changes and they will inevitably opt out when 7 schools like ours leave.

After NEXT season, meaning 13-14?

Syracuse and Pitt already are gone after THIS season 12-13.
