Agreed, just beat Depaul.  It's good to know now we are not  that far but we really wont have a clue where we stand until after this 5 game stretch that ends with Louisville.  1-4 we are pretty much done.  2-3 prob still alive with little room for error.  If by chance the team could go 3-2 it would put them in real good shape (8-5 conference record) into the final stretch of the season.  Have to wait and see, but for now one at a time.

Bottom line is this:

St. John cannot simply take care of business from here on out and expect an invite.

They dug theyselves deep, deep, deep into a hole and they gotta dig theyselves out.

Right now, they on level 4 of Dig-Dug and they gotta get theyselves to level 10.

LMAO....Dig Dug....old school

Stats lie. He's a true point guard. He started playing right when the BE schedule began, so naturally, wins were harder to come by. Still, at 5-3, we're improving. Howabout that GTown game two weeks ago? I think that GTown's best w of the season.

That is so skewed.  The Asheville game was his first game and we all kicked and screamed if he played more we would have won.

Also he's been eligible for the the harder games.

I agree with yours and the authors conclusion that Branch isn't a negative, just interesting. Obviously I find more interesting how the Hoyas have improved with out Whittington.

As for the St. John's game being our best W of the season not sure I'd go that far. It's probably 4th behind @ND, Louisville, and UCLA.

Adj O and Adj D take level of competition and pace into play i believe.  Based strictly on numbers, we are a worse team with Branch than without (not saying I agree, just saying what THOSE stats say).

I was never good at math.  I just think of those gurus that crunch all these sabermetrics all day are what ruined statistics.  You have to watch games.  I don't know how you can judge pace of play without watching a game.  And what is level of comp.  That can be measured over a long period of time.  For one day, one game a low D1 team can play game of their lives.

Just all a bunch of phooey to me.

Johnnies are ahead of ND. Louisville is losing players. UCLA has not been better than us. Maybe as good, but not better. It will be interesting to see what the young Johnnies learned from the pasting GTown gave them. I for one, think that Branch needs to run the offense to beat them.

When we beat Cinci, it was luck IMO. They just missed a lot of wide open jumpers.

DePaul guys!

Paultz bringin the wisdom.

Amen brothers, Amen.

I don't want to pile on.... But right on Paultz!
DePaul, DePaul, DePaul .. That's all our guys need to be thinking about.

As a side note: I know we're on a nice winning streak, but since when can we count games against USF or Providemce as automatic wins?
If its a tight game and we give the friars all those open looks down the stretch, like we did against Seton Hall, I guarantee Cotton will hit one of those open 3s to tie or take the lead.    If we keep playing one possession games we're going to get burnt like we did against Rutgers the first time.
This habit of not putting teams away isn't a cute characteristic of a "scrappy" and young team....its a potentially fatal flaw for a basketball team.

And before we worry about putting teams away, we need to worry about falling behind early and having to scrap back in it. With the schedule we have in the second half that is sheer suicide.

I know it's beyond a longshot, but let's just say that this bracket is exactly how things turn out (I know it won't be, but indulge me here):

If we managed to beat OK St., I would like our chances against Minnesota.  I think it's an advantage for the at-large team that wins the First Four game, going into their round of 64 game, because they already have an NCAA tournament win under their belts, and have shaken off the cobwebs (it doesn't apply for the 16 v. the 1, because the difference in talent is too much).  Add to it the fact that, in this bracket, we wouldn't have to leave Dayton after the game, would make it even more of an advantage, for us or OK St.

Again, I'm realtivley confident in the fact that this bracket won't happen.  I'm just making a general point about the first four games, especailly with Dayton as a second/third round site this year.

I think you've got some red colored glasses on then. UCLA definitely has been better than you they beat Missouri(at full strength) and Arizona @ Arizona, They had their issues earlier in the year, but they're better than you and it certainly has more name value. ND is definitely a tougher team to beat on the road than St. John's. ND had only lost 2 BE games at home since 2010 both of those to Uconn before we beat them.  Louisville is still one of the top 15 teams in the nation at worst. St. John's is definitely improving, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. I expect St. John's to be a very tough game for us on Sunday as you will be looking for revenge, but St. John's still has a lot to prove before we go crowning them better than the 3 teams I listed.

Make em or miss em, shooting is part of the game. Cincy was home. If they were going to miss shots they should have found a way to make us miss more. Why would you wanna belittle that win? Rutgers win at the Garden don't count because we missed a bunch of foul shots? If Amir doesn't foul the Nova kid who knocked down all 3 just before overtime we get that win. That win at Cincy was a good road win that I will not be qualifying with any imo stuff.
