I have criticized coach Lavin mostly to bust on the posters that viewed him as some sort of holy figure beyond criticism. Honestly despite some of his questionable game coaching, I totally believed that his stature, personality and above all his recruiting would ultimately get us back to the Louie years.

This year was rough though and did put a real crack in my beliefs. Lavin's behavior towards end of the season has been pretty bizarre. The Harrison situation(whether deserved or not goes on Lavin's record), playing two different walkons during important stretches of games including in the BET was just odd. And what was with that Pointer instructional video? I have never seen anything like that! Was it really that important to draw attention to yourself and embarrass Pointer to show him how to guard an inbounds pass???? Very odd!
i think lavin is getting UCLA flashbacks.

I liked the Pointer thing. I think that's one of Lavin's strengths as a coach, he isn't afraid to "get dirty." He'll get out there and be very animated to get his point across. Dom knows how to defend an inbound pass, the point of that, IMO was to get him to play with some energy.

Ref looked pissed too that Lavin wouldn't give him the ball.

I think Lavin realized that if you looked at our offense it looks like we are not being coached. So to prove that he actually does some coaching outside of the spinning hand gestures and "jazz hands" thing he does on the sideline he figured he would make a show of showing the simplest thing that is done on a basketball court. In the NIT I predict he shows Branch how to dribble during a timeout.

Mo Hicks is limited in what he is actually permitted to do.

One thing he definitely not permitted to do is get on the court and actually coach the players in practice.

Or actively recruit.

In all seriousness, what does he do? I actually have no idea.

Someone can explain it better but a DOBO is like a glorified secretary to the basketball program.  Its a foot in the door and DOBO's then move up onto the staff.  They have no coaching or recruiting responsibilities.  Pretty sure when he was hired it was said that a DOBO can't even attend practices or something crazy.
i thought it was a one year embargo on recruiting.  lucille ball can do what hicks is doing at this point.

The lack of knowledge by some of you is astonishing and comical... You self proclaim to not know any of the responsibilities or limitations of certain positions of people on staff, yet you criticize those individuals and Lavin for having them on staff and for not doing whatever it is you don't even know they are suppose to do.... Comical... I say fire Hicks, don't know why, but hell, why not!!!!

You hit that one out of park. The "drawing attention to himself" point was spot on. Teach at practice, strategize and adjust tactics during TOs. While he was evidencing his pedantic skills, the rest of the team was standing around. Perhaps I am being too critical of that moment. It just was strange and egocentric, a trait I worry about.

Paultz -- I do agree with you that evening out recruiting for 2014 and NCAA next year are the two goals.

For what its worth, if we would have won the game yesterday, Steve would be getting a lot of credit around here for the inbound teaching. We didn't win, but I don't think that was a terrible thing that he did.

I thought he was spot on.  Great post #8.  How can you knock someone for not doing their job if you don't know what their job is.  Moe Hicks is not responsible for any of our losses.  That's just fans speaking out of frustration.

You're not allowed to do that during a timeout or between periods.  I was surprised the refs didn't stop it quicker or T him up.  Very unusual to see that in a D1 game.

Lavs can hire Bill Carmody who was just fired at Northwestern as associate HC.  You want an X's and O's, he's the guy.

I sure as hell wouldn't complain about that. And he has New York ties.

He would have to fire one of his guys.  Not sure that happens considering the ties he has to all these guys.

You help them get another job if Carmody is available.
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!
