Lavs can hire Bill Carmody who was just fired at Northwestern as associate HC.  You want an X's and O's, he's the guy.

Most guys aren't worth the hire.  Carmody is worth Dunlap dollars and more than that, he's not the type that will probably ever be appreciated as a head coach.  Fantastic coach though.  If I were Lavin I'd have been on the phone with him 3 minutes after him being fired.  Once again, Lavin was looking for a Dunlap replacement after he left.  Martin was hire but he wasn't the guy Lavs was looking for.  As a basketball fan, Carmody should be offered the dollars Dunlap was making.  He's worth it.

Cut the ties to Hicks, Martin and Keady (it was a nice gesture bringing him here, but it's time) and get Carmody.

Since you are cutting ties with a coaching legend and our coaches mentor... Would you like to get anyone else back in this cut 3 get 1 deal?

I don't think Hicks has added much to the program. Martin and Hines seem duplicates of each other. I am nit sure why Keady is being hated on.

Adding Carmody for either Hines or Martin is OK with me.

I jut don't see Hines going anywhere with his wife based out of NYC unless he gets a job with Knicks or Nets.

Since 2000 when he left the shelter of the IL Carmody is:

192-220 total (.476)
70-150 in conference (.318)
Has finished 5th once in onference and otherwise never higher than 7th
Has had 5 winning seasons out of 13
Has never made the NCAA tournament

He might be a "fantastic" coach but there's no evidence of it.

On the plus side he is Roman Catholic, he is from the east coast and he learned basketball from the great Pete Carill. But anyone who expects Lavin to start running the Princeton offense is bound to be disappointed.

Mo Hicks is limited in what he is actually permitted to do.

One thing he definitely not permitted to do is get on the court and actually coach the players in practice.

Or actively recruit.

In all seriousness, what does he do? I actually have no idea.

Someone can explain it better but a DOBO is like a glorified secretary to the basketball program.  Its a foot in the door and DOBO's then move up onto the staff.  They have no coaching or recruiting responsibilities.  Pretty sure when he was hired it was said that a DOBO can't even attend practices or something crazy.
i thought it was a one year embargo on recruiting.  lucille ball can do what hicks is doing at this point.

The lack of knowledge by some of you is astonishing and comical... You self proclaim to not know any of the responsibilities or limitations of certain positions of people on staff, yet you criticize those individuals and Lavin for having them on staff and for not doing whatever it is you don't even know they are suppose to do.... Comical... I say fire Hicks, don't know why, but hell, why not!!!!

Hiring Hicks biggest impact was costing us Kadeem Jack and another kid we could have used.  Beyond that there has been nothing positive to point to in adding Hicks to the staff.

Jack? Really, that's who you miss? A guy who put up 5 and 4 as a sophomore? What about Lamont Jones?

Funny, Billy Donovan and Bill Self had no trouble adding a certain horrendous former D1 head coach to their staff after he was fired. It's not always so black and white. Carmody may be able to help a team like ours as an assistant.

Northwestern loses because they never have any talent that can compete in the Big Ten. Not because their players don't know what they're doing. Since our players don't know what they're doing, it seems to me that adding a guy who teaches fundamentals and runs actual offensive sets is the kind of guy we need.

Carmody isn't a good recruiter but good tactician.  Not a good fit for head coach in a major conference.  Ralph Willard not the best as a head coach but Pitino relies on him.  Lots of others out there.

Carmody's failures as a head coach I think are because he wa way over his head recruiting-wise.  I'm not saying he's a "must have" but is a well travelled coach with good pedigree and known for being a good tactician.

Doubt if Carmody is out of a job long. He would be a  good hire for Lavin but, he runs the Princeton offense, screens, back doors, lots of motion.. Not sure whether Steve wants that type of offense.. Although , it might be a improvement..

At Northwestern he was competing as a private school with very high academic standards against the Indianas, Michigans, Ohio State,ETC..

Northwestern might be even harder to get into than Princeton? But, that's not the issue..

If he's available, he would add some cerebral stuff to our blackboard.

Highly doubt Carmody would be interested in taking an assistant position. If somehow he were he'd undoubtedly be a tremendous hire. His family lives close by me in NJ. I've already started campaigning to his brother.
