Highly doubt Carmody would be interested in taking an assistant position. If somehow he were he'd undoubtedly be a tremendous hire. His family lives close by me in NJ. I've already started campaigning to his brother.

In your opinion.......which one of the current coaches should Carmody replace?

Well, depending on his impact, he'd only be here one or two years. Look what Dunlap springboarded into. . .

I think high major assistant is better than many of the jobs bound to be open. I think Siena is a good opportunity if approached, but FDU seems like a career killer. Make huge impact here on a largely directionless but athletic team, and pick a better job a year or two from now. Would a high major conference tab him as coach right now after not getting it done at Northwestern?

He would have to fire one of his guys.  Not sure that happens considering the ties he has to all these guys.

PLEASE let's hear this one...    tell me aboput Coach Lavin's "ties" to Tony Chiles. The other guys, sure but Tony Chiles..   let's hear you explain that statement..

Cut the ties to Hicks, Martin and Keady (it was a nice gesture bringing him here, but it's time) and get Carmody.

Keady is an advisor. And they don't take his advice, or they'd never play that match up zone garbage against anyone.

Are there time restrictions regarding practice at the pro level? If not, or if they are less restrictive than college, then it would stand to reason that Rico would be more effective there. Is there enough time at the college level to absorb all the X's and O's guys are supposed to absorb, and then also go through the individual workouts that Rico is known for?

Someone must pay for an NIT berth dammit!

We were expected to be Final Four material this year....oh wait.  Scratch that, predicted 10th in BE...  Fire someone anyway!

Although I do not believe anyone on the staff should be let go based on this season, if posters are actually campaigning for Carmody then I'm curious who they believe he should replace since we cannot simply hire him outright. That being said, I personally was not a fan of the Martin hire. I wasn't expecting us to bring in anyone equal to Dunlap, but I didn't, and still don't, know exactly what Coach Martin brings to the Coaching table. Is it X's and O's, recruiting, etc...what? By no means am I suggesting that he's not contributing, I'm just curious what his niche is.

Doubt if Carmody is out of a job long. He would be a  good hire for Lavin but, he runs the Princeton offense, screens, back doors, lots of motion.. Not sure whether Steve wants that type of offense.. Although , it might be a improvement..

This is reason #1 why we should go after him. If Lavin wants to recruit athletes, this is the offense- or at least a version of it- we should be running.

I don't know who should be fired. But this team doesn't look well coached. Doesn't take a basketball expert to see that. These guys are getting paid good money. Much more then the last staff. Nit is not good enough

At Northwestern he was competing as a private school with very high academic standards against the Indianas, Michigans, Ohio State,ETC..

Northwestern might be even harder to get into than Princeton? But, that's not the issue..

If he's available, he would add some cerebral stuff to our blackboard.

Hey slyfoxx - welcome aboard. Good to see your handle back in use.

Ditto.  Welcome Sly.

NIT isn't good enough based on what metric....the staffs income? Kentucky has had 5 straight top five recruiting classes. Cal makes more than our staff combined. They're in the NIT. Baylor has had top recruiting classes. They are in the NIT. This is year 3 for Lavin, who missed year 2, and has had 2 recruiting classes, turned over an entire roster and have no upper classmen yet the NIT isn't good enough in year 3? Sure Kentucky lost players to the NBA, so did we. They still have a plethora of top 100 talent, so does Baylor.

We are not Kentucky, we are not even Baylor. We don't have their talent or budget, yet we are playing in the same tournament they are. Lets put this "not good enough" or "we should have been better" talk to rest and put things in prospective.

I agree with all of your post except for one thing.  When you say "we are not even Baylor", we should be.  In fact, we should be better than Baylor.  UK is truly elite---maybe the top program in the country.

OK Jungle.  You go first, get it? Your friends might get me in a rush, but not before I make your head into a canoe, you understand me? - Steve "Wyatt" Lavin

So because Cal had a bad year, it's OK for us to be bad this year?
That's not how this works.
This season's SJU team had enough talent to be in the NCAA tournament.  Not only did they not reached their goal, they imploded down the stretch.  On the court, and off.  Losing 7 of 9. The best player being suspended indefinitely, and several in game skirmishes that culminated in actual punches being thrown.

do I think it's the end of the world?  No, I do not.
Do I think it's fair to say we're better now then during the Norm era?  No, not at all.  Because that was historic ineptitude.   Whoever we hired, at the very minimum, was expected to achieve more than Norm.
Do I think it's appropriate to say "it's ok to be where we are, because team X, who historically is very good, is also struggling at the moment."  No I think that's equally misleading.   Some good program will always be experiencing a down period.

Kentucky didn't lose some players to the NBA, they lost 6.   They also won a national championship last year, and Baylor was in the Eite 8.
We returned 4 of 5 starters, added two highly regarded recruits, and a talented pg transferred in.

We should've been better than this.  We aren't obviously, but Lavin is entitled to some slack and some benefit of the doubt.   He's enjoying that now.   That won't be the case indefinitely.

When I say "we are not Baylor" I'm speaking about at this moment in time and looking at the success of the two programs and the administrations commitment for the past decade. The Lavin hiring has shown our administration is now committed and I agree going forward, we should be in the conversation as being considered as good as if not a better basketball program than Baylor.
