Funny that every story about the ACC playing in MSG quotes someone affiliated with Syracuse. The only other person is the overly ambitious commissioner Swofford---who is hell bent on crushing the Big East because he is angry about being inferior to the BE in the past 20+ years.  No one from Duke, Carolina or any of the other traditional ACC schools about wanting this.

In the previous 25 years, the ACC has won 8 mens hoops championships and the Big East 5 so not sure that "inferior for the past 2o years" is the best route to go...

The top of the ACC won them.  The rest of the league wasn't that strong at all.

ACC has been top heavy.  Duke and Carolina are arguably above all Big East teams. BE has been a deeper and more competitive conference. Louisville, Cuse and Uconn have all been elite prgrams.

That's possible I guess.
It's also possible that his school presidents told him to go make more money for the conference, and so he did.    Hard to tell which was his motivation.

i don't think he was anti-big east.  he was ordered to steal lollipops from a baby and that's what he's doing.

So Syracuse, UConn & Louisville would not be considered the top of the Big East...

The ACC has won 32% of the Mens Basketball Cahmpionships and we have won 20% over the past 25 years - you can say anything you want - you just can't say the ACC has been an inferior league over that time span.

I think it worth pointing out that MSG has had a long standing relationship with Fox Sports and not ESPN  and MSG to fault is loyal to its teams and entities and does drop them in a dime. So I believe this is alot of smoke and MSG won't bite, but the arena in Brooklyn will and the ACC is trying to create leverage when they go to negotiate

I don't think the member schools or their fans all that high on playing their tourny up here. Now they have a good hoops league. They wanna be regarded with the big boys I would think strengthening their football would be the way to go.

Barclay's already has a conference tourney. The southern schools have no interest in playing their conference tournaments in NY.

The Atlantic 10 is not the ACC and yes duke and unc does not need nor want it in NYC but wake, Boston college and NC state and the new schools all can use it as a recruiting tool.

Outside of the contractual obligations.....Barclays with the A10, A10 with CBS sports, which will be broadcasting the A10 tourney......Barclays is not MSG either. Its the venue, not just the location. ACC won't come all the way to NY to play second fiddle.

I read that as "we should have the conference tourny in NY"; without him wanting to say it literally.

he's saying, "think bigger"..a concept totally foreign to the powers in the big east.\

that's why he's where he is...the acc is where it is...and the big east is where it is.

Unfurtunately, I think you're 100% correct in that assessment.

I think what he mean is Greensboro, NC is Mom and Pop stuff.  I am sure Duke and he would be in favor of NYC with significant Duke alumni support here, but I think he just means think bigger in general even if not NYC (because MSG might be locked in with BE).  They could do Atlanta, DC, New York, Chicago, Boston, Miami --- all within their "footprint" now (though Chicago is unlikely with ND the only one in close proximity....though it would be a huge FU to the Big Ten who is their biggest competition).  Why stay in little old Greensboro when you have those other options at your disposal?

Now that I think about it, an ACC Tournament in Miami with the Heat watching courtside...that would be pretty prominent given the power structure of the NBA right now.  I think all options will be on the table for the ACC because they do have the best basketball conference in the country.  Something our leadership should have realized was more valuable than they were giving it credit for, IMO.

Cause there is more provincial powers in the ACC.
Duke and UVA may get northeasters aplenty.
But UNC, State, Wake and the like wanna keep it where it is.

Maybe this is a silly question, but if we have an attendance clause, isn't it in the best interest of the Big East to add at least 2 more schools sooner rather than later?  I know it's probably hindsight and too late now, but I think if the Big East as it stands had foresight of the ACC trying to take over MSG, they might have added two more teams and their prospective fan bases to the mix.

That said with the MSG clauses, does the Big East start to look at which schools, especially eastern ones, which would likely travel to MSG?
