wagner did beat us back in the day when pj carlesimo coached them.

it's sad that our program has progressed so little that we're still worried about them and bucknell.

Per this from Rumble, they never beat us under PJ:

The two schools have played each other sporadically since 1935 and the Red Storm owns a 15-2 series advantage. Wagner last won against St. John’s in 1956.


They beat Alabama in the Lapchick Tournament under PJ, which was their last win over a ranked opponent until Pitt last year.  I think they also took us to overtime under PJ, but we won the game.  Think I read something about that once.

Also, to whomever was making out that list, Colombia is a third local team that has not beaten us the last 2 decades.  Other then that, none I can think of (if you don't consider NJIT or FDU to be local).

Bucknell shoots 47% from 3... combine that with our 3 point defense...

I really think this would be a solid, solid win for us early in the season.. I know, I know.. Coach makes a lot of $$, higher ranked recruits...blah blah blah.. That shit means nothing.   This will  be a tight, nailbiter...

 I will gladly be dead wrong with my prediction.. I hope I am.

Our defense has improved since the Wisconsin game for sure.  Man-D was better by a ton against Wagner and the threes they made were pretty well contested IMO.  We shall see...  One can't look at numbers averages after just two games.  Bucknell doesn't have half-season worth of stats and haven't played against a team like SJU yet.

Yes...  Neither team is close to as athletic as we are.

Agree it is small sample size. That said, our defensive awareness & intensity must be top shelf tonight. Also, avoiding dumb fouls is essential to keep the right guys on the floor and Bisons off the line. Like our chances, but  a challenging matchup.

Agree.  My point though was about our athleticism giving them a tough time.  Bucknell is good.  Not sure they are as good as Wisconsin.  We also didn't play our best game the first of the season.  We kept Wagner to 30% from 3 and they hit a few prayers to get to 30%.

A whole 3 game sample size...

Bucknell is very good and very well coached. If they hit shots early and pack in the zone it can be a long night for the Johnnies.

Im with you. And we cant seem to stay in front of anyone.

Really need to improve this defense.

They are just much more disciplined than us.  Efficient on both sides of the court.  We look like we have no clue, again.

 This is the man to man defense everyone wants us to play...
