I missed the game so my one question for you guys is did Sanchez and Jordan play much worse than their stats indicated? Rysheed had 3 assists in 6 minutes! Sanchez went 3/3! To me its beginning to seem like Lavin is giving these two the same type of deal that Norm gave Brownlee and Hardy. These two need mega minutes and to be major parts of the offense. Plan and simple.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

"Greatness is more than potential.  It is the execution of that potential.  Beyond the raw talent.  You need the appropriate training.  You need the discipline.  You need the inspiration.  You need the drive."  (Eric A. Burns)

Bottom line is this was supposed to be the season that got St. John's back in the national spotlight.  Based on what I've seen so far from this team, we as fans should not hold our breath.

Jordan didn't play much after a completely stupid and unnecessary three point shot with a man in his face 5 seconds into the shot clock.  Sanchez seemed to do what he always does.  Started off making a couple of good plays, and then seemed to disappear the rest of the game.  He needs to be more assertive IMO.  As for the Jordan thing; I don't know what goes on in practice and whatnot, but it certainly seems like Lavin has a VERY short leash on him.  He does make mistakes, but he seems to get buried because of them.  He's a young kid, he's going to make mistakes, but I don't think completely forgetting about him is the way to help him improve.

In all, I'm not nearly as upset as everyone else is regarding our play in this game.  I think this was easily our best game.  We were able to move the ball on offense to the point where it almost looked like we knew what we were doing.  There were some defensive lapses, but it was nice to see them turn it on when they had to at the end of regulation, completely locking PSU down on two consecutive possessions.  The Hooper technical was just bad luck.  It was not intentional, but rather unfortunate.  He reached his arm out to slap the other guy's arm, and just caught too much of his body; looked far worse than it was.

The other thing re: Jordan's playing time is Greene.  You know Lavin isn't going to sit D'lo and with the way PG4 has played, you can't sit him either.

Glad this wasn't on TV. So is Lavin I guess

Here we go...

and shoot me if you don't agree but harrison has to make that free-throw. he can't have this macho swag and get out dueled by tim frazier at the end of the game in a freethrow duel. first team all big east right.. doug mcdermott is not missing that free-throw .. harrison has to put the game away.

Agreed.  But it is not the end of the world.

He is going to make more game winning plays then he will failing on the FT line.  But he needed to make both.

I respect your opinion, but would you agree this team is failing to demonstrate reasonable defensive proficiency thus far & the problem must be corrected ASAP? I know it is early, but the lack of defensive commitment & concentration thus far is disturbing. Blocks, yes, good defense, no!

Absolutely...attention deficit by our perimeter defenders (bubble above their head seems to be elsewhere) and propensity to go for every shot fake (which must be in all scouting reports at this point)...

for those not at last night's game...Frazier absolutely looked to get fouled on the 3 pointer...kicked his feet in attempt to draw contact on what was a long 3 pointer

Lavin always seems to play this game during the OOC sched. He likes to test players and try out rotations. My bet would be once we get to BE play Jordan is playing much more.

I agree RJ will play more, but he is still learning to play to his strengths.  Launching shots out of the flow will get anyone benched at this point.  As Dave mentioned, the team is geared to transitional play.  Phil, Rysheed and Jamal are most capable in that system.  Our bigs can run, so let's go!

Though I do think this was the best we've played this year- alas it' wasn't good enough - that itself is a problem.  We need to play intense D the entire game not just short segments-when we did play with a lot of intensity on D we pretty much shut them down   5-7 minutes of defensive intensity is not enough.  Hopefully we learn quickly - though by this time I think we should have been a lot further along than we are.  Today is a must win.  If we lose .......

Each coach has his own style, but I was looking for Lavin to give the refs an earful when we started to gets crewed on the foul calls.   He didn't, and they kept calling a lopsided game.

Will we have the same crew today?

I don't think I've ever seen the same exact crew in back to back games in a tournament

Thank you.
What did you think of the officiating overall yesterday Moose?  I'm not typically one to blame the refs, but I do think we were getting screwed almost from beginning to end.

There were a. Few obvious exceptions... Phil's continuation in the second half was just absurd.
But mostly I thought we got called for slight contact on D, and Dangelo and Jakarr werent getting the same calls when we went to the rim.

I didn't think anything was out of the ordinary.  We just commit way too many stupid dumb fouls that caused the FT discrepancy

Penn State's guards like to penetrate and our guards don't stop penetration.

Harrison missed the free throw that would have won the game. It was painful. Sanchez should have played more. I like Sampson, he's a good kid, and he's trying, but he has really regressed. He goes up softer than anyone.

Go figure this might be the same crew as last night.  Edsall definitely reffed our game last night.

I just checked the box score, 2 of 3 were the same.  Cassel also worked our game last night.
We did a better job of not settling for jumpers (in the second half anyway).
