Desco- you're still willing to dump LAvin and hand over the keys to Calipari's bag man?   That, seems like the ultimate leap of faith.

I am almost back on board . Season isn't over . We can win very game left on schedule. lavin absolutely deserved the criticism . 5/6 isn't great. Better. Then 0/5.

not being soft. had fun last night. Looking forward to Thursday. Think we win again. Starting 0-5 sucks. Getting to 6-6 is good. Starting to think lavin is like Bobby Bowden. He was the head coach at Fl. State His teams always won. He always recruited well. He always had excellent assistant coaches with him. Those assistants called all the play and made all the substitutions. He wasn't a great coach, but he was a great face of the program.
I think we are going to have a nice end to the season. Changes may need to be made. Don't think the school will fire lavin unless he is terrible. Think we are a lock for NIT. Think we have a realistic chance at tourney. He looks to have saved his job. Hopefully our season is not over. I am hoping to enjoy the rest of February and hopfully some of march.

I would extend his contract, especially incentive clauses basing compensation on results.

No one should apologize to a guy making seven figures coaching a bunch of kids.

But people who come down on these players and never show up at a game to support the program should take a look in the mirror.

Lavin making the right moves since the 0-5 start.  Rotation is good and offense is better but still very flawed as ball movement is mediocre at best.  Defense is more consistent, effort is better.  D is what this streak is about.  Extension?  Not yet.  But the man can recruit and things looking MUCH better.

Extension is necessary and will help recruit '15's and 16's.

As great as this has been as of right now Lavin is still failing at his own expectations. We are still hovering aroun the bubble. The only slip up we can afford  is Nova. We only moved up one spot by beating Georgetown in the BE.

I am excited and the team controls it's destiny and I'll keep enjoying the ride while it lasts.

Iona just gave a contract extension to 2018-19.  We should do the same.  The program. step by step is improving.

Maybe we should retroactively give Mahoney a contract extension as well since if we don't make the tourney, they will be on the same career arc.

No time for negativity.  NCAA's here we come!  (Hopefully, this year, but if not next year!)

Can I get some of hnk's happy juice. An extension for what? Not making the tourney three years in a row. Only way we get in this year is if we win the BET and this team is just too inconsistent to expect that.

Usually you need to accomplish something before you get a contract extension.

Can the guy win 1 game in the tournament before we give him an extension HNK?    I don't think thats asking too much.

Mahoney ruined his chance here. He was a good recruiter, but he failed miserably in key areas. From 1993-1996, we had Derek Brown, a shooting guard, running the offense, Mo Brown, the most overrated PG in STJ history and Tarik Turner, who just wasn't ready for the BE when he got here. No point guard did him in.

Lavin has BE a player every position. And he has made this program a relevant one again. That, while it's no guarantee of future success, it does help in recruiting. Lavin isn't a genius as a coach, but let's see the full depth of what he's learned after the season is over, before coming to a conclusion.

I think Lavin deserves an extension, but I want to see how the season plays out before making up my mind.

Poison, that's a very fair point of view.  I'd pull the trigger sooner rather than later.   I think it makes the program look good from many points of view and gets much goodwill.

He should get one and very likely will..  It's just common sense based on recruiting going forward, especially with the big '15 class.

The improvement hasn't been has quick as we may have liked, but it is there.  The team, both in performance and talent, as improved every year.....after year one, of course, which was a senior laden team that needed to be completely rebuilt immediately the following season.

We are St. John's, not Duke, Cuse, etc, Etc....  I have no interest in bringing in someone new and starting over... None whatsoever.
