The theory of coaches is fun, but has anybody heard any rumblings and grumblings at all?
True Lavin would have to rebud again after this year, but the stigma of leaving a program decimated (in terms of no recruits) would seem to leave a mark if he wanted to coach again. He also has marks of somebody who keeps recruiting ineligable players at this point.
It can be argued that he left the program worst off then Roberts did.

We are not even in game two of the season yet, I think a better gauge would be right before the BE season after we played in the NIT and faced Duke and Cuse.

I think the administration would have to make a point that they do not want him back for him to leave.  Does anybody know if the AD is on the hot seat at all.

Well, Fran says:

When people talking about building a hoops program, it's 1) recruiting 2) scheduling 3) keeping guys eligible & 4) coaching, in that order.

Remind me again which hoops programs Fraschilla built?

He was doing pretty good here, but we fired him.

I'm not going to go crazy with Coaches that won't come to SJU until the current position is at least vacant.

Getting fired is not a criterion for program building.

No rumblings needed

At the end of the year 1 of 2 things will happen.  He will be extended or they will mutually part ways.  He's not going to get the chance to coach a team with 1 year on his contract and with the possibility of losing 6 to 7 players and none verballed he's done nothing to earn an extension.  I hope this team plays the 2nd week of the tournament but even that won't guarantee him an extension unless he reels in a Top 10 class.

Yeah, pretty good...but he couldn't win with the outstanding talent he brought in.

Asking for a different coach isn't supporting the team?

He went 22-10 in year 2, made the NCAA tournament.  We know what his recruits did after that.  No, he was not the brightest bulb in the shed with re: to game coaching, but he was not terrible there, either.  He also likely would have continued to recruit enough talent to largely overcome that.

Actually borzello had something about a 3 year extension. That guy will coach into his 80s and still be winning.

Went to the Providence/Albany Game in providence.  Great coaching job by Will Brown, Albany coach. In first game of the year his team ran the offensive sets beautifully and played solid D against a far bigger and athletically superior Providence team, taking them to the wire.  I think SJU needs to start thinking seriously about replacing Lavin and I nominate Brown, a great bench coach and solid recruiter who has made the tournament.  Only question, can he recruit at a major conference level?

2 games into the season and you post this?  Absurd

As long as all the absurdity stays on this thread, let them go bananas.  It's when every single thread gets infiltrated with how horrible a coach we have... Keep it all here..

5 years into the Lavin-era and you think it's absurd to talk about replacements?   Absurd.

Not sure it's good  news or bad news but it will be real I teresting come the spring either were gearing up for the tournament and Lavin has continued to bring in recruits, or  Lavin will be in the middle of a 2nd straight disappointing season and the demand for him to be gone will reach epic and hilarious levels.
The real interesting issue is how fast or slow this administration will act on Lavin and his contract.
