Players have to defend. They didn't bother.
Hard to single anyone out on a night that the entire team lacked intensity or hustle but I did notice one time in particular while the game was still winnable where DJ just jogged after his man who went around a pick. Props to Poison who has been on DJ for lack of hustle I hadn't noticed how pronounced it is until tonight. It appears all he is interested in is getting his shots. Should be benched until he shows some hustle as it is a poor example for a 5th year senior and one of the supposed team leaders to lack hustle.
+1
In my mind, a grad senior should recognize those possessions weher we need to get a layup. He doesnt seem to possess this on court leadership qualityand his talent level is only so-so.

Let's be honest...the staff got completely outcoached in this game. IW's coach has been around a long time and he completely threw the Johnnies out of whack. The key against this team was to pound down low with Christian Jones and Sima. If you watched a few plays, noone on their team could physically match up with Jones. Yet we continued to play right into their gameplan and keep the ball on the perimeter and slow, methodical offensive sets. I'd like to see the offense be much crisper in getting rid of the ball quicker and moving without the ball. We gave that team way too much time to setup defensively and controlled the game. The staff and majority of the team didn't show up last night.
+100

we had a size advantage and never attempted to leverage it

Johnson led the team in points assists and rebounds. Maybe bench someone who didn't lead the team in points assists and rebounds, just a theory.

Incarnate Word thoughts: http://www.bigeastboards.com/
Always enjoy reminisence of SJU hoops from decades past. I was at that Bama game in the Coliseum in 82.  STJ was down one, with seconds to go, and Bama was shooting a one and one. (There was no double bonus in those days).  I was sitting right behind the basket and going nuts like every one else, and the guy missed the free throw.  Billy Goodwin got the bound and drove the length of the floor but missed the shot when, after getting four feet to the side of the basket, his body sailed a bit too far and the ball caught rim, and bounded away.  An agonizing loss.  It looked like the shot was going in but was just off by about an inch.  That was Mullin and Wennington's Freshman year and you could tell they were going to be really good.

The next year in the sweet sixteen they lost to Georgia when they had a late lead and Kevin Williams got a bit out of control and they lost.  They did not have Jeff Allen for that game.  In 86' they had no bench and were exhausted after winning 31 games and the Big East Tournament.  They lost in the second round to Auburn.  Another memorable tournament  loss was the DePaul game in 87 in the round of 32.  In my recollection, we had a lead with a few seconds to go, when the ref made  an absolute phantom foul call.  There was nobody within five feet of the shooter.  Then there was no lane violation called on the missed free throw and a miraculous putback by Strickland.  It was a stunning turn of events, almost like the ref had bet the game.  The Duke loss in 90' was too disturbing to recount.  If anyone remembers these games a little differently, feel free to add to this.

It's gonna be hard to get up, get out and get something on the way to the game tomorrow after what I watched in person last night.

Yes good point, very impressive in a 22 point home loss to an inferior opponent.

How much would they have beat the inferior opponent by if he hadn't led the team in scoring, rebounds, and assists.

I thought Johnson has played better. He seemed more aggressive . He was far from invisible. He just isn't as good as we all hoped.

He has, on offense. My point was his defense and setting an example for the rest of the team.

Unfortunately growth is not a straight line up....it's more like a stock chart.  There will be plenty of peaks and valleys this season.

Last night I decided that he reminds me of Mason Jr. Big wings that have all around skills but always leave you asking for more.

Let me know when the next peak comes I don't want to miss it.

Knowing Duke and Kentucky both lost to unranked teams made me feel a little better today.

I'm over the Arroz Con Carne defeat and ready for NJIT

Yeah, because beating Syracuse less than a week ago wasn't a big deal.

Not trying to be confrontational. I have never seen Lovett play. Still without him I don't think we win again this season. In previous seasons I was usually one of the most positive posters. Tomorrow is our last patsy, I have never seen them play. I read on here that they were good. I also read they had a week to prepare for tomorrow. Playing this St. John's team isn't hard to prepare for. I hope we win. But I am not confident.  After that we have South Carolina who looked good in the half I watched them and then the big east. De Paul and Creighton both lossed today. They looked much better then us.
Tomorrow is a big game in my opinion. Yes I am aware that our team isn't that talented . But we are not exactly playing Duke.  I am hoping this staff makes some adjustments. We can't just play our best 5. We have to play our 5 that are best against the other team.
We are playing NJIT we should be dictaing the game not the other way around.
Some of these players won't be around for long. But hopefully the staff is. They should be better then these smaller conferees's staffs. We should start seeing that. Hopefully tomorrow

" We can't just play our best 5."  =  "We are playing NJIT we should be dictaing (sic) the game not the other way around."

That's what playing your best five is.

Not if our best 5 can't guard their best 5. Not when they control the pace of the game. Not when  their 0 star players presssure and speed up our 3/4 star athletes.

Okay but not playing your best players because of what the other team is doing is the definition of letting the other team dictate the game.

How much are you willing to bet we don't win another game this year without him?

I bet we don't win 4 games with out him. That is what I would bet at even odds. And I don't want to bet against us. I want to win. Duke was better then us last year. I woukd not have bet on duke. How many games do you think we win?
