For those saying good riddance, there was this guy Cedric Jackson, and he was pretty terrible. Short memories.

Not many are saying good riddance.  Amar did as good a job as he could here and he improved.  I think it's a better fit for him somewhere else though, where I think he can get more PT moving forward.  Almost all SJU fans wishing him well.  I do think the staff needs to get a but more talent in here though, and they need to balance scholarships.  Amat transferring helps both him and in the long run the roster.  It remains to be seen what Matt and slice have in store for us, but I will venture to guess they have it well covered.

Losing Amar hurts. He was a good teammate and recruiter, plus he was one of our biggest and strongest guys. If Jones leaves as many believe, we are left with the skinniest team in the Big East. Hopefully the staff can being in a strong transfer since  our strength and conditioning staff can't do what every other staff at top programs does.

Pretty selfless of AA to actively recruit RF, who plays the same position, knowing he is likely to transfer.

Should see some transfer candidate names in next few days I sense.

Are we still talking to Ferguson, Freak Jr. and the moose from Arkansas State. Would you say our first recruit would come from those three ?

He's Arizona bound (Ferguson). That train left the station.

I'm happy for amar. It's the right move for him. In three years he'll be dominating some mid-major conference and he'll drop 25 on St. John's in the 6/11 game for our next round of 64 exit.

Well said. Hope Amar succeeds wherever he goes but not going to lose sleep over him leaving

Have I not praised Amar for his improvement? I think I was pretty clear in acknowledging that he has improved. I've also praised him for his positive attitude, which can't be easy all things considered.

Yet you crucify Mussini even though he was better as a freshman than Amar was, has a much higher ceiling and also has a positive attitude, which can't be easy all things considered

I didn't say that Mussini has a positive attitude. I don't believe he does. He doesn't have a position either, unless he's not being guarded that is.

Amar is a project. Everyone knew that from day one. Mussini was never considered a project. He was a high profile recruit.

Amar is not a project. Projects have potential. Amar doesn't. He is what is he is.

Also, you do realize high profile recruits can be considered projects too right? Even in the NBA guys that are considered projects go pretty early in the draft because of their high ceiling potential. Had Mussini gone to a school that had somewhat of a roster left behind he would have gotten no minutes and maybe even redshirted and that would not have been disappointment in any way. Instead he was forced into playing more minutes than he should with a bigger role than he was ready for in his freshman season. There are plenty of freshman much higher rated than Mussini that got less burn than he did.

Do you understand the meaning of potential?  Cedric Jackson was a ridiculous athlete.  That alone placed his ceiling and potential to the sky.
Your knocks on Mussini are just silly.  The kid is  a real asset to this team--or any at the Big East level.  He was overused left on an island without a single even average ball-handler to help him.  And he had to be the primary scorer as well.  Tough task for anyone  Had he played 10-12 mpg for a better team, you'd be whining about why we can't land scorers "like that kid from _____, who comes off the bench and hits two threes every game."

Last season as painful as it was , was a good learning experience for the returning sophs. Mussini got to handle the ball and can probably spell Lovett for a few minutes here and there and help vs the press. Ellison got alot better as the year went on. Yakwe , we got to see the raw talent on display every night. And Sima before he got hurt was doing very well. Pieces are there and more being added. Be patient  and enjoy the next season as we watch it all start to come together.

I understand it, but I'm surprised that you have such a short memory. No one at St.John's blinked when he left because everyone thought he didn't belong in the conference. At the time, he didn't. The point shouldn't be escaping you.

We had games this season against Nova, SU and Georgetown where Amar was our only player who showed up. To say he has no potential at all is short-sighted especially considering that you know he's a hard worker. I still think he made the right decision for him and the team but I guess I'm a troll because I didn't say good riddance. So be it smart guy.

I just saw this news on Amar which is great. I wish him the best but he was in way over his head at the BE level. Much better suited for an FDU type or even a strong D2 program. Don't let the few bright moments blind you from his lacking skill set and feel for the game. I hope his scholly gets filled with a big guy.

I don't want CJ to transfer as he can be a very serviceable backup combo forward for us next season. The only way I want CJ gone is if they find someone who's ready to step in Day 1 and contribute. Jones showed a lot of improvement even over the last 2 months of the season. He is primed to be a good garbage guy next year even if it's in a 10-15 minute role per game.

Good post on Amar . As for CJ. He has been here 4 years and has had a few decent stat games, but he is not a smart tough player. He looks good in his uniform. But he doesn't defend or rebound well. No issue with him spending his 5th year somewhere else .

I hear you on CJ. I agree that he has shown very little production over the course of the 4 years. But I did see significant improvements in his decision making this year and his court awareness seemed much better this year in terms of positioning for rebounds and second chance garbage points. I have no issue with him leaving as well but they better fill his spot with someone good because I just have a feeling (could very well be wrong) that next year he could be pretty solid.

Jones improved offensively this year. He is lost on defense, but if the guy can score the ball, can't the staff coach him up? There were plenty of games where he and Amar were the only guys scoring. Not saying he's our best player, but he'll be a 5th year senior on a team with less experience than any other in our conference, and probably anywhere else, too.

Offensively, (I've said this before) I see some similarities to Anthony Glover. Defensively, he needs to learn how to box out, and how to recognize what's happening. He may have been here for 4 years, but don't we get the distinct impression that once he proved to be clueless, Lavin just completely forgot about him? With a point guard creating opportunities for him, he will improve, because he won't have to force the offense. He was trying to dribble through 3 defenders last year, and while that's never a good idea, if everyone else is just standing around there aren't exactly options.

Let's hope he stays and has a great senior year. We've seen worse players than CJ breakout before.
