Two years of some of the worst St. John's basketball ever...I expect progress and we're getting regression, seemingly.  A third year of this and that would be it for me.  Things better change next year and fast.

If Pecora or Slice were sitting next to Mullin we still lose this game by 20.

That said, I agree in principle that a new head coach should not have assistants all new to coaching too.  That isn't a recipe for success.  But, this team needs more than an experienced assistant.

Neither Pecora or Slice are X's and O's guys. We need an X's and O's guy, like we had with Dunlap

Today was a very frustrating game to watch because we seemed to be playing pretty well at first and then it all fell apart in a hurry. Wish Mullin would have substituted during that lights out run in the first half, felt Mussini could have helped. Ponds was 3/17 from the field today! His last few games have been a little rough.

What did you expect with all freshmen and sophomores?

Apparently an NCAA tourney bid.

The team better at least make some strides by the end of the season. This has all the makings of a Clyde Drexler to Houston situation. I'd have no problem letting   CM go by the end of the year if they continue to not improve. I agree that this is two of the worst years I've ever seen so far.

I'm not happy with our defense. Its concerning. It's even more alarming when we are not making shots. Our transition D is terrible. That being said, it's important to realize that we are not making shots, and that's because we don't have talent. We shot 42.6% against LIU and 37.3% against Penn St. That's not on the coach. Coach wants to play an up tempo style and hope to score in the 80's to 90's.  Players have to make shots and stop turning over the ball. We have more talent than last year, but that isn't saying much. Our best players are freshman, everyone else are role players and some wouldn't even see the floor if they were in other top programs. We should see improvement next year as the talent and experience improves. Be patient and support the staff, the players are not as good as some of you believe.

We have heard the same excuses over and over. We have looked terrible against equal or lesser teams than us  we are not complaining about losing to Duke, Nova, Butler or even Seton Hall or Providence. Start working on some new excuses for next year as I think you are going to need them.

I know this is my first post in a while, and I probably shouldn't. But we fired a coach that brought us three 20 win seasons in 5 years, for this. I'm still going to give Mullin another year, but I still stand by my stance that Lavin was the best coach we've had here in a long time. I'd take him back in a heartbeat.

You mean we looked terrible against better teams. We are the lesser team and some of that is on Mullin. He doesn't have the horses to play his style.

Lavin brought us the horses, but he created a circus. I didn't want to let Lavin go but I also understood why he needed to go. I believe Mullin will do well if we give him some time.

I'd take the circus back. Wins are what I want as a fan. Lavin was decent at that. He was also smart enough to hire experienced D1 coaches as assistants.

It's clear Mullin doesn't quite know what he's doing coaching college basketball. Which is understandable as he, nor his staff, or players, have any experience doing so. Todays game was brutal. No adjustments, no defense, simply outcoached, and outplayed on both sides of the ball.

What did you expect with all freshmen and sophomores?

To not lose to Delaware State and LIU and then get embarrassed by an average at best Penn St team at home?

Losing the three games in Atlantis is fine, as those 3 teams have more talent than us, but Delaware State, LIU and Penn State do not. A little progress would be nice

I'm with you, gotta see some coaching improvement by mullin February.
That's last year, and most of this year, just show that you're f'ing learning a few things.
I won't say can him if he don't.

I want to see what he does with a experienced team, and 2 highly transfer from AZ and Mich. That is the case next year.
There will be no excuse next year if he fails, they would all have experience.

We have one big man that can catch the ball and he's only a soph that desperately needs 20 lbs and has no back to the basket game. We have one...maybe two adequate defenders on the perimeter at this point. We are getting killed on the second rotation--one of the hardest concepts to master in all of basketball.

Nobody saw Yakwe regressing more than Erik Flowers in his second year...that has killed us. Clark and Simon will almost certainly be two of our top four players next year.

I'm not really sure what some of you expect this season when we go into every game with a disadvantage at the 3, 4, and 5. We start four guys playing their first season for SJU and a soph that played a half-season last year. Think about that.

The # of people willing to kick the staff to the curb right now is unbelievable.  Unrealistic expectations.  I don't think the staff has done a good job but I expect them to learn this year.  I agree with all that its a problem if next year is not a very significant improvement by all in the program.

I agree with what you just posted. Unfortunately if I remember correctly you were one of the people predicting craziness before the season. People were clearly unrealistic, but in fairness this season has been worse than even I expected. Yesterday the team quit! Mullin needs to keep things together, somehow have us playing competitively and steal another 5 games somehow by the end of the year. Don't think 5 games is realistic but the competitive part has to be.

That is why you hire an effective boss, in this case an AD to fix and stop the circus.

We did not have anything in place.

He should not have been fired.

Mullin's first game I sat as close as I could behind the bench. Like everyone I wanted him to do well. I sent pictures of him like a little kid to my family and friends. An hour later at half time we were getting killed by a division 2 team. Plenty of excuses have been made but that shouldn't happen. Our team last year had little talent but they certainly should have beaten or aleast been competitive vs st. Thomas. Since then we have lost to:  incarnate word, nyit, LIU, deleware state, old dominion. Last year we won 1 conference game. This year, I can't believe we win 2.

Mullin has 19 games left . He should show something. What has he done to deserve to be our coach? What about recruiting going foward? No one wants to lose. What about our current players? Do you think they are happy? Our guys were wanted by other schools and still are.

This season is going to get much worse. Besides DePaul, penn  state was the worst team on our schedule.
We have plenty of talent coming back. A good coach we can be decent/good by next season. Every single one of us has to produce Or we will lose our own jobs, why is mullin different. My job is much easier but I am also not making 2 million dolllars.

Everyone needs to improve. Everyone. Some things we need to see the rest of the year is improvement and no quit. The effort we saw yesterday was unacceptable and everyone is frustrated, rightly so. I want to see a lot of running, a lot of pressing, a lot of hard fouls, no free layups. Play hard and play smarter. That's what we need to see for the remainder of the season. All is not lost
