Just need a coach on staff with actual experience. Preferably someone who has been a head coach previously. This will help out with the day to day, game planning, keeping guys in check, practice, etc.

It's beyond disappointing how up and down the team has been this season. Part of the blame goes into the players and other goes into the staff for just running things status quo and expecting results to be different.
I used to think this was a possible solution but don't anymore. Do you really think Mullin would cede enough authority to an assistant to implement the changes necessary when it goes against his philosophy? Any smart candidate would probably see the problems this would present.

Assistant coaches are incredibly important. Even Jay Wright struggled at points when his staff shook up. You need to have a balanced and specialized staff.

I'm fully aware assistants are important.  Nor did I ever say they wasn't important.  Obviously, you didn't soak in my post.

What is the reason that Mullin has decided he doesn't want an experienced college basketball coach on his staff? Is it just plain arrogance?

I'm not sure Mullin would be as opposed to that as you think. Mullin has ceded plenty of authority to Greg St Jean when it comes to strategy and running the huddle during timeouts. Perhaps Mullin wouldn't be as kind to an older more experienced coach taking a little bit of control but I don't think he's necessarily a dictator. But who knows, maybe he is and that's why he decided to keep his staff the same despite their glaring ineptitude.

I wasn't responding to you but simply piling on to your post. I agree with everything you said.

Mullin wants a coach who will run what he envisions. That is the problem. Mullins vision of success. That is why he must go.

You're right ceding is definitely not it. Simply needs more help. This staff doesn't know what they don't know.

Mullin- 3 years
Richmond- 3 years
St. Jean- 3 years
Abdelmassih- 8 years
Huey- 0 years

This might be by far the least experienced staff in the country especially at the high major level. Matt is the most experienced coach on staff and he's far from the clipboard and practice operations.

We would benefit with a more experience from assistant coach to DOBO. Especially guys from winning programs and not internally promoted managers / GA's.

Nova- Dwayne Anderson 5 years as an assistant coach under Pat Chambers is their DOBO
Marquette- Rob Judson has 30+ years experience coaching is special assistant to first time head coach Wojo

Could go on and on

4. Find a way to connect with the fans and reinvigorate them in the sense that the ship is being righted

The attendance and fan support this season was astounding. The fans are already connected and invigorated.

They are just feeling down after such an abysmal finish to the regular season when hopes were so high.

Send your children to college and adopt their schools basketball program as your own.

What is your assessment of the coaching staff? Where are the deficiencies?

What happened with Slice after year 1 should’ve been a red flag. Rice not being on the staff after auditing practices for 2 yrs another flag. My buddy Tim O’Toole would have ran  to have been on staff after Johnny left Stanford. All these guys would’ve improved the staff. Don Nelson is a guy who I thought would have been here. If he comes back and most likely will be, staff needs overhaul. I wonder is Masiello is let go at Manhattan would be a great asst. ?
My Candidates if he is not back.

Nate Oats
Chris Collins

If I remember correctly, and I'm pretty sure I do, he responded to this same question a few days ago saying he wouldn't judge until the season is done.

Time to see if new AD has the "juice" like new Mets GM who brought in an experienced bench coach (Rieggleman has 30 years as Mgr/coach) to provide knowledge to manager.

Much like any good Gm, Ad or sage poster - I resist offering conclusive, blanket assessment of coaching staffs during the season. This is particularly useful in the immediate aftermath of the season's most disappointing defeat.

I would be happy to render an assessment of the coaching staff at the appropriate time, after the season, if anybody is still interested ( I'm sure they won't be ).

Bottom line, if Mullin wants another year, he's got it. This is what the University signed up for when they hired him. You hire the face of the program, he gets a longgggg rope.
