That would be great news if true, adding Dunlap would be huge for this team.

Do you really think Dunlap would go for a low level job like Northern Colorado? I know they arent terrible but they play in the Big Sky. He would get more exposure and money as the associate head coach at SJU I would think.

I hope not, but just like Paul Hewitt wanted to come here and family kept him at GT....same could happen to Dunalp re: St. John's if N. Colorado comes calling....

Why I think Dunlap won't put in for the Northern Colorado job:
(1) Couldn't have been brought up in conversations with Lavin because the job didn't exist yet. Late in the day to start reaching for something just because it's in Colorado and leave Lavin in the lurch.
(2) IMO Northern Colorado is too low level a job for Dunlap at this point. Historically it only leads to the UC job which is now taken.
(3) Granted, Dunlap's family wants to be in Colorado but from the sound of things he works so hard that they probably only see him rarely regardless of where he's working.
(4) I think and hope we get Dunlap by Wednesday.

Now the Ricco Hines has officially been announced does it have any breaing on us hiring Dunlap? If it doesnt and we ink him we'll have lavin, dunlap, hines and chiles (sp?). that leaves us with one more spot to fill correct?

If those are the 4 then that leave the DOBO position rumored to be Hicks.

i just hope this comes through...if we get dunlap and hicks for DOBO, we have the slick big name coach, a great x's and o's guy, a great developer of talent, a beloved guy from the city, and a brand name hs/aau guy...all bases covered...seems too good to be true...this is a complete 180 from 3 weeks ago

I wonder how our salary for associate is in comparison to the head coaching gig at Colorado.

I know I'm late to this conversation (too much to read while still trying to appear productive the last few weeks has kept me almost exclusively on rm.com) but here's some number re yours and other's questions.

Tad Boyles 09/10 salary at No Colorado:  $110,000
Bzdelik's 09/10 salary at Colorado:  $655,000
Assumed Dunlap Salary at SJU:  $250-400K

From what I have heard I would say towards the low end of that STJ spectrum.

Yeah, I wasn't sure but in my mind, and I hope this isn't sacrilege on this NY centric site, Dunlap's worth more than Slice and I thought I read that Slice was offered $300K.

There aren't many asst coaches getting upwards of 300k.

Yes but Dunlap is already one of the highest paid in the country at $400K/year at Oregon as associate head coach.  Not saying STJ would offer the same but they're obviously offering enough that he's not being connected to any other assistant positions.  And again, is he worth more than Slice's $300K offer, I say yes.

i think lavin should contact steve mclain. ive read he might join tom creans staff. He seems to have great credentials and he might be able to bring big12 freshman of the year alec burns with him..

maybe he could be our wes johnson.

nbadraft.net has him as a top 10 pick in 2011

"Derrick Wrobel, who has served as Mike Montgomery’s director of external relations the past two seasons, is leaving Cal to join the staff of  new St. John’s coach Steve Lavin. Wrobel’s exact title has not officially been announced.

Wrobel is a good guy, enthusiastic and hard-working. He spent four seasons at Cal, where among things he organized the popular alumni game held in 2009. Wrobel also handled scheduling, summer camps and community service events for the Bears. He said he appreciates the opportunities Montgomery gave him, and that he and his wife are excited about their move to New York City."
