Four-star guard Isaiah Whitehead finished off an impressive spring at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, and could be putting himself in line for a bump to five-star status.
Isaiah Whitehead had an incredible spring playing with the Juice All-Stars and for a short time the New Jersey Playaz, and he capped things off with a stellar showing at the NBPA Top 100 Camp. It should be no surprise that the Brooklyn (NY) Lincoln standout continues to get significant recruiting attention.
A powerfully built 6-foot-4, Whitehead can use his strength and athleticism to get to the rim, or his much improved jump shot to hit from deep or in the mid-range. He has been scoring every way imaginable this spring, and he says it has to do with his hard work.
“I feel I have been playing great lately,” said Whitehead. “I have been in the gym a lot so it is hard work paying off really.”
Recruiting wise schools continue to stay in the mix recruiting him hard.
“I am still looking over schools like St. John’s, Syracuse, Louisville, UCLA, Minnesota, and schools like that,” said Whitehead.
Syracuse has always been firmly in the mix for Whitehead and they continue to show him a lot of attention.
“Syracuse has always been there recruiting me,” said Whitehead of the Orange. “I have a good relationship with the coaches and players. It is like I am already a part of the team.”
Another school that has been there for a while is Louisville. Rick Pitino has historically recruited New York City very well, and current Cardinal Russ Smith has told Whitehead what the place is like.
“Russ tells me you have to play defense, and if you play defense the sky is the limit,” said Whitehead. “They are national champs and they have a great coach.”
Also two schools with new coaching staffs are making a push. Both UCLA and Minnesota continue to work hard to get official visits.
“We have a great relationship,” said Whitehead of Minnesota. “We talk daily or weekly, and they have a great program.”
About UCLA, he said, “I’ve been talking to them every week about what new things they are going to bring to UCLA and things like that.”
Whitehead says that visits are likely to be set up following the July live period, and that he plans to make those before coming to a final decision on where to attend school."
