Did I hear right or maybe it was someone else but Whitehead's AAU team the Juice All-Stars will be backed by Under Armour?

Wouldn't be shocked.
Lincoln has been.

Fwiw,

“@NYPost_Brazille: Don't believe Louisvilla landing Jaquan Lyle will impact Isaiah Whitehead from what I've heard.”

Be honest not sure the impact either but look at the guard commitments for '13 and '14 for Louisville.  Terry Rozier, Anton Gill, Chris Jones, Quentin Snider and Lyle.  All are studs BTW.

How the hell does he have room for Whitehead?

It HAS to influence his decision, regardless of what Braziller's says.  Louisville might have the deepest and most talented stable of young guards in America coming in already.  Most logjammed backcourt around.  If Whitehead chooses to go that direction, I'd find it odd.  Can't see how this commit to Louisville doesn't help us.

We can't use a crowded backcourt as an excuse when ours will be pretty much just as crowded.

I don't agree it will be close to as crowded.  Louisville is bringing like six 5 star kids in at the same time.  We will have Harrison and Branch as seniors.  The only shooting guard ahead of Whitehead is Harrison IF he's still here as a senior.  Rysheed is the cream of our PG crop, and while I like Branch, I think he will be second to Rysheed at the PG spot.

I don't think it is the same as having 6 freshmen and sophs to have to shake out PT.

I don't think the years matter.  Didn't I and some others take heat here for suggesting a freshman would dethrone a SR from the starting lineup.  Bodies are bodies. Whitehead isn't long for college so the years of the others mean nothing.

And for Cap's question their players are probably better, but ours will be Sr's.  That kind of offsets things.

My god - a sane take from a message board!  After cruising other schools boards, what a refreshing change.   Yes!  A "good" talent sticking around for a senior year CAN trump a "very good" or even "great" talent coming in as a frosh or even a soph.   It's why (sorry, UCLA reference) future college Players of the Year  Sidney Wicks and David Meyers weren't starters till their JUNIOR years - because their teams as sophs were busy winning NCAA titles with  seniors Lynn Shackleford and Larry Farmer playing 30+ minutes a game in front of them.

Cr, does Moose get a UCLA jacket for his wisdom?

Hey, jackets for everyone here if I could - you have no idea what the sanity of being able to come here to the St. Johns boards means to me.  Monday found myself banned for life from Scout's UCLA site (can't even READ their fan forums anymore).

Same here CR.    We have some great message boards and fans here.  Glad you appreciate them and i think all of us appreciate you here.  I still maintain though, that a good senior or two on our roster should not be a deterrent, but six five star guys coming in at the same time certainly should.

There is a huge difference in interpretation.  Whitehead knows he can automatically get at least 20 minutes per game as he'd be in the top 3 talent-wise in the SJU backcourt with Rysheed and Harrison.  Harrison, Branch and Greene will all be seniors.  He can easily expect to be the shoe-in at SG next to Rysheed at PG after those guys are gone, and he will still be guaranteed huge minutes his first season.

Louisville he'd have no idea where he'd shake out in the first season nor the 4th and he might be there that long if he gets beat out the first season or two by the other 5-star talent.

Everything is situational - I was responding to the generality.  The mindset regarding these "savior" high school kids has simply gotten ridiculous.  In this "one and done" era, I honestly think a lot of younger fans don't really KNOW what a senior laden team means! :)  Fans at that other school to this day LAMENT that Darren Collison helped their demise by selfishly RETURNING for his senior season, instead of graciously stepping aside so that "super recruit" Jrue Holiday could step in and lead them to a National Championship as a Freshman.    And DC had just led the team to 2 straight final fours, and had been a 22 minute a game 6th man on a 3rd as a freshman, and was a 3rd team All American.    Mind you this lament comes KNOWING that Jrue was a guaranteed one and done, and the fact that year DC produced 14.4 pts, 6.3 assists, shot 51% FGs, 40% 3s, 90% FTs, while the sulking Holiday kicked in 8.5 pts, 3.8 assists, shot 47% FGs, 31%3s and 73% FTs.

:tickedoff:  Ahhh I can't take it anymore!

CR you're a great poster, we all love you here, but is it too much to ask to limit yourself to 5 or 6 UCLA references per day?   It's truly getting out of hand lately.

I'm sorry you were banned* from the bruin boards, and nobody minds a good Walt Hazzard story now and then, but does every discussion in every thread require a UCLA story or comparison? Really?

But I digress....
I agree with you guys on the value of experience.  And it's also understated that not only do guys' skills and decision making improve throughout their college careers, but their body's develop too.  People don't point that out enough.  The Moes and Jakarrs of the world who start off as string beans are solid as a rock by the time they're 21yr old seniors.   For just one example..look at Kemba his senior year compared to the skinny guy he was a frosh.

Sorry, likely a defense mechanism - I tried to step out of my comfort zone with Mullin references, and physically injured myself trying to dive for cover.   :)   I spend a couple hours a week going thru old season stats, player bios, etc for St. Johns, so I'm hoping eventually it'll be second nature to illustrate points with Johnnies player references and facts instead.   I'm truly working on it.

Feel free to be yourself CR.  You easily one of my favorite posters on here (and I believe I speak for many).  Besides, most of your UCLA references seem relevant because of the Lavin connection.

Why does everyone think that Harrison will be back on the team and / or maintain his spot?  Has he been allowed to play again and with his past behavior who is to even say he will be around in '14.  Just saying you can't say our backcourt will be crowded for sure.  Also, if this guy is as good as advertised here he seems like a 25-30 minute player even if everyone is here.

I do find it a little funny that posters always talk about this guy or that guy leaving early and then say we are crowded.

Everyone on here who saw him play, knows the beauty in Mullin's shot. However, not enough is said about his passing game and on court smarts.  Always going to the open spot or finding the man in the open spot when he had the ball.  Defensively, he would anticipate the opposing team's passes and come up with the steal.
He was money both offensively and defensively where those smarts made up for his lack of speed.
These are some of the things that don't show up in Mullin's stats and all of those great UCLA player's stats.
You having seen the great UCLA players intangible's, and not having seen Mullin's, is where you got in trouble.

I'm back with a free moment before my son's travel baseball kicks in tomorrow.  I've enjoyed most all of CR's posts.  I even figured out an inexpensive B&B in Oahu to stay at because of CR - former UCLA center turned wedding photographer, right CR?  CR's the stat analogy that keeps giving.   :)

Personally, I appreciate and look forward to CR's posts, including the many references and analogies to UCLA players. CR obviously has a wealth of basketball history and I am delighted he shares it. If some do not care for it, guess what, they don't have to read it. Post away, CR, you have a huge fan base here.

To continue the CR lovefest, most of his UCLA comments are made because they have a relevance to SJU or a recruit that we're persuing etc. He connects the dots very well. If you don't get that ...  ::) Post away CR
