What annoys me is that two loya, long suffering seniors, Evans and Burrell both lost time to Polee.  Then, at the first sign of a little competition and adversity he goes running back to his Daddy in Cali.  Pretty selfish and spineless to me.  He could have at least given it a year and seen how it worked out.  Instead two of our seniors had they're cereers derailed.  I don't wish him or his father well.  If he's really NBA material he's going to have to prove it somewhere and it's not going to be handed to him like Daddy wants.  We'll be fine.  Don't much care about him.

Exactly what I expected out of you.
Yeah, it's called logic.  The NCAA is full of kids who got recruited over.  How many freshmen unseat two seniors and start every game and then bail out before the smooches on his butt dry out?  He got treated damn well here for what he contributed.

He started to win the tip pretty much.  We've established that.  Your boy(s) still got more minutes.  Besides they were foul magnets so more minutes wouldn't have helped.  Stay classy!
agreed.  "We should be posting to praise Dwayne, not bury him..."

Any way you look at it grabbing the LA player of the year is a great thing.  Losing him after only year is bad news and fodder for opposing coaches.  No other way to look at it IMO.

Yes, we're all in for a reality check every year from now on. You can almost bank on a transfer every year caused by lack of PT. It's tha nature of the beast.

I'm not happy he's leaving but the sky isn't falling either.  I don't think this will have any negative impact on recruiting.

Maybe he lands at LMU where one of your previous favs Vernon Teel graced the court.

I agree with Dave's earlier note on Dwayne leaving probably as a result of his father wanting him to get more PT.  As the old saying goes- It is not personal, just business (making the NBA).

Would he have received more than the 14 minutes he averaged last season?  Who knows, but he would have been in a system where I think Coach will rotate his numerous 3/4 players quite a bit.

Based on all accounts, Dwayne loved playing here and playing in NYC.  But alas, he has to follow his dad's wishes.  I can understand that.

The scrimmages with his team mates certainly would have helped his overall game.  I would have loved to have seen Dwayne develop, but it will have to be with another school.

Strange, Coach's first recruit is his first transfer.

Yeah that's a real ticket to the NBA.  Hey, we could have used Vernon as it turned out - especially after having Wiggins stolen.  Norm never did find a PG.  Did he? Even when he had one on the roster (Hardy).

Not saying I agree with his decision.  But if its a sick family member I a lot of people would backtrack their words.

We are still waiting for your list of PG's from last April.  Its over 12 months now. :)

Agree Moose, he deserves benefit of doubt that it is a sick family member.  I think most are just responding to reports that it is his dad and PT issues.  Let's remember that just about everybody uses a sick family member as their reason for transferring now because of the hardship claims.  My bet is it's his father/PT but who knows...

Some of you are crazy. Polee loss is huge. Especially for this upcoming season. People were up in arms when Calhoun transfered and Polee is / will be better. Tough loss.

BTW some of you are in for a rude rude awakening. I have no doubt the incoming Frosh are talented but we are going to struggle and lose often next season. That is not anegative, it is simply understanding the situation. I am still looking forward to the season as much as I have in a long time. Some of you are in for a pretty big reality check though.

I wish Polee well, he has to do what's best for himself and sitting on the bench isn't going to help his development, he needs playing time and I hope he finds it. So now with the loss of Polee what are you expecting our record to be next year? I think our defense will be better next year, that alone should get us our fair shair of wins. We will have our growing pains, but I expect us to finish know worse than 8th in the Big East.

I think next year's outcome will be the same with/without Polee.  I don't think he would have been a dominant force anyway.  Which guy out of Sampson, Harkless, Pointer, Amir would he have started over?  Maybe Garrett?  And Garrett's D is 10 times better than Polee's already.  I'm not even sure about that.  I think we'll be very competitive from the tip next year because we have guys that can get up and down the court, and we'll never tire out.  We have shot blocking, the ability to move well on defense and rebounding HAS to be better as last season it was abysmal most of the time.  Our guard play should be a lot better overall.  We have some real dynamic scorers and long players.

I wonder are there any big men out there with one year of eligibility left that might want to take his place?

I'm less concerned about the loss ability, and more concerned that we're really light up front. Not to mention young. Who's the captain? A freshman?

Add me to the list of those who looked forward to 4 years of what seemed to be a super kid develop.  I hope he finds what he wants and also think he will be missed.

first...it's the fans who were long suffering...evans and burrell only suffered for four years and contributed, in part, for our suffering.

they achieved all they possibly could under lavin.  giving evans 35 minutes a game so we could finish below .500 is ludicrous.  lavin could have given polee all his minutes and we'd end with the same won-loss record.  polee averaged about four and a half points a game in 14 minutes of playing time.  it's not inconceivable that he'd average double figures if he took all of evans' minutes.  it wouldn't happen...we've seen lavin's game plan is to run players in and out.

under this scenario, polee probably would have had 25 minutes and averaged double figures next year.  he would have had the benefit of stud assistants improving his game to an nba level.  his father apparently didn't buy in.  it might explain the "why me" tweet from polee weeks ago when posters speculated he was hurt.  it might have been his father telling him he's coming home.

Players are going to get recruited over, and some will leave, that's how it's going to work now that we have a coach that is going to bring in constant streams of talent.  Lavin will hopefully reel in Jones, who will add some college experience if not this coming year with the hardship waiver, then the year afterwards.  Lindsey will be around as well...one player with one year of college experience does not really make this team that much less experienced than it already was.  With Polee or without Polee, this team coming in was going to have pretty much zero experience.  The way the previous coach constructed the team let this come to pass, because he didn't have much of a clue as to what he was doing.  Thank goodness he didn't get to recruit this class because then the university would have been set back another four years.  St. John's is lucky to have the problem of players like Polee wanting to leaving because they don't think they'll get PT.  If NR still was around Polee would be the best player the next three years of his career here as we continued to play like DePaul.

I wish his mom a speedy recovery as well as momo grandmother. But let's be serious if u saw josiah turner play u could actually see momo's mouth drop and be like I'm getting the hell outta here. I have no chance. Dwayne is a cool kid what's funny is when everyone said omari was fat albert and didn't lose the weight he had put on for a whole year. But not one not one person has looked at polee and asked isn't it strange he went the whole year here and hasn't gained a pound. A single pound. Omari was lazy but polee was????? Come on guys if u have seen mo  harkless play u could tell that polee would be used occasionally. The same with dom pointer he does the same exact thing as polee but is 2 inches shorter with a way better handle and pro body

Polee put on ten pounds during the season--I coudn't tell at all, but that was the report.  I think Polee would have played about 25 mins per game next year and we will be a worse off team for the near future, but I thin we could actually come out of this better with Sampson getting more Burn at the four and the opening allow us to get Anderson and Gathers.  With those two and Sampson, Polee really isn't necessary.

Polee had a SF body, but didn't have the SF skill so he played PF and some center--and, for the most part, it woked.  I see no reason why Mo at 6'8 and heavier can't do the same...Pointer as well with 25 more pounds on him.

The one thing aout Polee that kind of shocked me was that he was a pretty average offensive rebounder.  As a team we flatout sucked on the offensive glass, but Polee was only average with all that length hops.
Garrett plays a lot of four in big time high school ball and is only an inch shorter that Polee, but looks much stronger and more aggressive.

I'll miss Polee and I really think he opened the floodgates and for that I'll be forever grateful, but this loss only hurts for one year.

re: KOB - I hear you about the not gaining of weight. Hit the weight room, kid. I don't know how Polee can wake up and think he can do much with that little muscle. You can't even pass yourself off as a baller in a club looking like that! (Also interesting that one of the knocks on Polee is that he didn't develop much in high school. Just tossing that out there.)

RE: Marillac - I went back and watched a few of Polee's games (for a recap post on his season). And his numbers were iffy, but his effort, more on the defensive glass, was cringeworthy. he didn't put a body on anyone. He jumped and reached for rebounds instead of getting to position. He was afraid of contact.

I say all this knowing that he had skills and could have improved with work, could have been a real help to the team. The flaws don't erase that, though those flaws were glaring.

The problem with Polee is he didnt have the skills to compete with our recruits at the SF and was only 6'7 and to thin to be a truly effective PF. I feel Sampson will put on more weight as time progresses and has more upside.
