He doesn't read the Jungle, BEB or any other fan site. He hates this program. He is an absolute disgrace. Once he leaves, the University will need some time, although not much to remove his foul stench.

While I hate to add fuel to your fire but your posts the other day about Lavin were definitely a hot topic within the University.

I'm sure there will be some sort of article about it shortly.  I know for a fact other posters here heard the same rumors

Lavin isn't going anywhere and Baldi as well as everybody else should thank their lucky stars.  We have a big-time head coach here who is one of the best recruiters in the game and a great staff behind us.  Even with all of our setbacks and having to replace a roster of 13 kids, we're on target to be a perennisl top 25 team starting in the next year or two.

Lots of other coaches would have signed marginal players just to fill holes in our roster.  Lavin took some chances and lost out on 3 guys initially.  We're down to 2 losses and if we can bring Jakarr back in the fold like I think we can, we'd only have lost Pelle from that initial group.

I think this shorthanded team this season has really got some people down on the future of this program, but I'm not seeing that at all. I personally prefer a coach that will roll the dice a bit when recruiting and not settle for marginal players taking up 4 years of scholarship on the roster.  This is season is absolute rebuild mode and we need to be patient as Lavin's health recovers as well as our roster health requires.  We won't be in this type of position ever again under Lavin where we need to fill 13 scholarship spots and start a Big East season at bball 101.

Father Harrington, like it or not, hit the mark with Lavin.  He was hired under his regime. While he has made mistakes and may have "lucked" into Steve Lavin, my gut tells me that he will be a hire that recovers a lot of the poor management of this program.

Larkin is a quality spokesperson and coach.  We should all hope he's here for the remainder of his bball career.  If he gets us back to top dog in a year or two, one can only imagine how powerful his recruiting really can be.

Not only do we have other coaches using negative recruiting.  We also have an Iona fan who is moderator of a SJU board spreading negative rumors about our program that can only hamper recruiting.  Great job Baldi.

Well we have a coach who coaches via cell phone at the moment, some questions and rumors need to be addresed. I didn't make the story up and if it was bogus, why did it cause a stir as moose said?

Baldi, repeatedly questioning the return of someone recovering from cancer is ridiculous, but so is MCNPA blaming Baldi for recruiting issues.

I actually do agree on one point with Baldi. While Lavin should take all the time he needs and only come back when he is 100% healthy, I do feel the cell calls during games are absurd. Take your time coming back but the calls are distracting and I think sending an odd message.

Let me clarify.  The stir is caused was not that the rumors were true.  It was the ludicrous nature of the rumors from an STJ fan site to boot.

So might be your best pot stirring to date.

A fan site that gets as many hits as this one does saying Lavin isn't coming back is bad for recruiting.  I've never been one to blame these boards for negatively effecting recruiting overall, but this one is different.  It submarines the efforts of a coach who is out due to cancer.  It is a tactic commonly used by opponents.  Forgive me if I question why an Iona fan is moderating this board, nonetheless spreading misinformation about our coach not coming back.

So we should blame the boards for the Norm years too I guess

There is truth to this. This is part of the reason why I closed the forum off to the public.

Baldi isn't wrong for repeating a rumor but seriously Baldi give it a rest. We know your position on how Lavin is handling this situation, not being here, communication via cell, etc. It's getting to be a broken record. Can we focus our energy on talking about other things?

I agree with MCNPA.
Though the "rumors"- were- "all over campus"-they were not all over the country via the web until posted here-yeah that's real good for SJU-trying the "don't shoot me I'm only the messenger" excuse in this case doesn't cut it.  The message had been pretty confined  and now it is up in lights from a SJU site-thank you messenger-you have done well by SJU or is it Iona.

You are giving these boards and Baldi in particular way too much credit. Lavin  had cancer and is currently not coaching the team. Those are facts. Can't hide them and if people want to use them against us there is nothing we could do. The smart phone commercials he is conducting during games is not helping matters though. Adds a desperate feeling to the issue. I do not remmeber Jim Calhoun doing these calls when he missed games.

Calhoun doesn't know what a smartphone is.  I personally don't think we need an Iona cheerleader flaming this board as a moderator, nonetheless championing the campaign to push rumors about Lavin not coming back.  I think the whole thing is ridiculous if not irritating to most SJU fans on these boards.   JJ is a great, great site.  Having an Iona cheerleader mod spewing this stuff...not so much.

Thats up for debate.
The feelings of 1 person does not constitute an entire campus.

Baldi loved Norm becuase 90% of the posters rightfully hated him as a coach. He now is Lavin's biggest critic becuase 95% of the posters believe he walks on water. Sometimes he is tedious and sometimes he is amusing but he had nothing to do with Norm being allowed to coach 4 years too long or anything  to do with the negatives that other programs can use about Coach Lavin's sutuation that is not already out there. And in the case of the smartphone calls I think Baldi stumbled onto a legitimate issue. I think someone should advise Coach to cut these out and stay low key until he is 100% ready to resume his duties.

If he stays low key IMO the rumors would be worse.  At least he is keeping his name, face and voice prominant.  I agree the phone convos are a little overboard.  Especially since its the same talk.  But since I'm at the games I'm not hearing all them.  But if Recruit A watches game 1 and Recruit B watches game 2 then they both saw Lavin is still involved.  Kind of basic PR 101 if you think about it.
