Lavin isn't going anywhere and Baldi as well as everybody else should thank their lucky stars. We have a big-time head coach here who is one of the best recruiters in the game and a great staff behind us. Even with all of our setbacks and having to replace a roster of 13 kids, we're on target to be a perennisl top 25 team starting in the next year or two.
Lots of other coaches would have signed marginal players just to fill holes in our roster. Lavin took some chances and lost out on 3 guys initially. We're down to 2 losses and if we can bring Jakarr back in the fold like I think we can, we'd only have lost Pelle from that initial group.
I think this shorthanded team this season has really got some people down on the future of this program, but I'm not seeing that at all. I personally prefer a coach that will roll the dice a bit when recruiting and not settle for marginal players taking up 4 years of scholarship on the roster. This is season is absolute rebuild mode and we need to be patient as Lavin's health recovers as well as our roster health requires. We won't be in this type of position ever again under Lavin where we need to fill 13 scholarship spots and start a Big East season at bball 101.
Father Harrington, like it or not, hit the mark with Lavin. He was hired under his regime. While he has made mistakes and may have "lucked" into Steve Lavin, my gut tells me that he will be a hire that recovers a lot of the poor management of this program.
Larkin is a quality spokesperson and coach. We should all hope he's here for the remainder of his bball career. If he gets us back to top dog in a year or two, one can only imagine how powerful his recruiting really can be.
