I don't think that is a fair portrayal of what Lavin is doing right now.  He is still the face of the Johnnies.

We have won three in a row and beat Providence badly in the BE opener.  The team has seemed to rally around the fact they are shorthanded and their supposed stud PG quit 9 games into the season.  Of course we want him back healthy, but I don't see the need to panic that he's not coaching the games this week( or next week).   I'm sure he's not happy about sitting out, he obviously has been told to take it down a notch.

You have a point. BUt I think things might have been a bit different for Nuri had Lavin been around. But than again, maybe theyre better off with Nuri gone. He couldve been a good player, and we need players. I think Dunlap even admitted, he didnt handle the situation as best as he coul. Also I think the other schools got into Gathers' head

Who knows what is in Gather's head, but I'd bet the combination of Lavin's health and "others" handling his recruitment were the two biggest factors.

By the way Baldi, I think you may be right about Nuri.  With Lavin coaching, who knows what would have happened.  Then again, a 3-year player like Evans was in the doghouse for a while last year because Lavin didn't seem to think he was buying in (based on the articles that came out during the season).  Result may have been no different and, as you said, the team may be better off in the long haul.  From what KOB said, Nuri was an apple about to rot and spoil a good bunch.

And Evans finally bought in, which surprisingly worked wonders for that team.

Ironically, based on that Newsday article that came out after the Duke game last year, it seems as if Dunlap was instrumental to Evans.  The same guy who apparently Nuri jumped ship on.  Regardless, I think it is more Nuri's loss than St. John's.  I wish him the best, but time to move on.  Also, Evans really had no option but to "buy in" as a senior.  He did, and became an important part of what was a great season for all of us.
