Dunlap is a huge exception. I don't think we will ever see a college asst. go straight into an NBA coaching job with no head coaching experience again for a while. Bottom line I think the Knicks asst job is far better than STJ asst job.
I love Herb . . . but he's never going to get a head gig in the NBA, which is his dream. Say he came here for a year or two, and then got a head gig in college as a result of our success. Two years of success as a head man in college may change the perception of him.
I don't think he's on any short list Lavin has, and I don't think he'd come anyway, but if I were him I'd take a chance and make a two- to four-year college detour to enhance my pro aspirations. The worst that would happen would be that he bombs and someone hires him as an NBA assistant. He's respected around the league and would have little trouble moving back into his former role.
