"So much World Football League" in Big East" Couldn't resist Jon Boy!

“@JonRothstein: Dominoes looking like this ---- MD + Rutgers to Big Ten. UConn to ACC. Then SEC going after a few ACC schools. When will we have order?”

On a serious note, all this instability in BE is certainly not a plus in recruiting world IMO.

The basketball only schools need to start their own conferenc.   Today.
But the problem.is that the BE commissioner represents the whole.league, including.the.football.schools.... Aresco isn't going to devise a plan to.dismantle the league.officially.   He'll keep plugging.in stop gaps.

Which school president has the foresight and cajones to contact the other basketball.only.schools and put a plan in motion?
Somebody.needs to.do.it.

Most people are also ignoring the BIG 12 in all of this.  They are stuck at 10 teams right now, going to 12 allows them.to have a.conference championship in football.... free money as.they say.
Sooner or later the B12 will be.adding 2 teams.   That's pretty obvious to.me.
Whether they take Louisville or Cincinnati from the BE or convince FSU or clemson, almost doesn't matter.   The BE will lose teams either directly.or indirectly if the according then needs to reload again.

I had the same thinkin 'til another thought entered my head:

If bball only schools bolt, they are subject to exit fees and dont have other benefits of still retaining the BE name, MSG, etc.

Cant afford to do that.

Best bet is to be patient and have everyone picked off. And then reap the benefit of the exit fees, retain the name and other rights.

Or am I off here?

Could be right but the exit fees are a bit overrated.  As we have seen they are not prohibiting teams from bolting and in many cases they end up being negotiated for smaller amounts.

Not sure what else they could have done.  Bball only schools have little leverage.  I mean think about it, how close were Texas and Oklahoma to leaving the Big 12 a few years ago for the Pac 10 now Pac 12 which everyone agrees would have been the death knell for the Big 12?  Kansas basketball is as big as there is in terms of blue blood basketball programs and that meant absolutely SQUAT to maintaining the Big 12.  It was all about Texas and to lesser extent Oklahoma because of football.

this could be bad.  maryland and rutgers to big 10 could spell a lot of change.

the acc is going to have to answer (uconn seems to be the name tossed around, but it could really be any big east football school.)
i can see the big 12 adding at least 2 more teams to get to 12 so they can have a conf. championship.

and whats to say that the conferences with 14 teams dont try to make a 16 team superconference?

i dont really like where we currently stand in all of this.

Louisville and UCONN to the ACC rumors?

Is anyone else hearing the Louisville and UCONN to the ACC rumors?  I've been laughed at before but I really think it makes alot of sense for SJU to move into the ATL 10.  The Big East is falling apart fast!

Rumors out there are that Boise State, SDSU and BYU are talking to MWC to return. Houston having an out clause if the television contract doesnt meet a certain number. UConn, Louisville, Cincinatti, South Florida are rumored to having talks with the ACC.  Us and Georgetown are rumored to having talks with the ACC.

So much dysfunction right now. I'd rather us leave if UConn goes and start a conference with the rest of the bball schools.

Right now the best thing to do is ride this out with the Big East and not try to crate our own conference. The first reason is because if the Big East name and collecting the exit fees. Two is because the Big East tournament and the Garden. Three we still do not know where the Big East will end up. If all the football teams leave we will still probably merge with the A10 except we get to keep the Big East name. Without all the extra work of leave a conference and we get to keep the name. There is a lot of negatives of having a all basketball conference but here are some positives. Football is very expensive while basketball is relatively cheap. Football brings in a hell of a lot more money but with all the cross country trips that all the sports teams will have to do because of football will have to eat into the budget. If a new Big East BB conference will probably go back to being regional which should cut down cost. Another positive is that the North East and in particular NYC is way more into college BB then FB. If there is a great BB conference the city will always buzzed for it. Another example is the Knicks have been pretty mediocre and still sold out every game. Mean while when the yanks were bad in the early 90s nobody went to the glass. Having the BE name with basketball will help keep the brand going. Finally as long as GT and SJU stick together I think we will still be alright and be competitive. I do not see Lavin going anywhere because he still has a lot to prove that he can successfully recruit and win. The potential is defiantly there but the results have not caught up yet. Overall I want the BE to survive with football but I think we can be successful with just a BB conference but right now we just have to wait things out.

Very possible. But there is some truth to it. Any of the football schools are looking for the first chance.

If we lose some of our big schools, we should just take our Big East name and move. There is no reason to be apart of the dysfunction. Its a detriment to the school at this point.

Now the SDSU president has come out and said that they havent talked to the MWC about a return.

Quote
Sterk said SDSU president Elliot Hirshman has talked to the presidents at Boise State and BYU, and all 3 said they have not talked to MWC about returning

Maybe the best thing to do is :After the other schools bolt ,have a BE BB only conference again adding schools like Xavier. The altrnative would be to keep raiding CUSA
