I generally like the guy - but CBS's Tim Brando took to twitter with a pretty vicious attack on Fr Harrington tonight:

Tim BrandoVerified ‏@TimBrando
The Reverend from St. John's made a complete fool of himself. A colossal mistake. No integrity no compassion no regard for loyalty. A joke!

Tim BrandoVerified ‏@TimBrando
As a Catholic the actions of these schools only underscores why our Religion is universally ridiculed. Absolutely pathetic money grab.Awful!

      Alexander Stubbs ‏@zstubbs
@TimBrando respectfully disagree. Big East today not close to being the same entity (size, feel, geographic) as in '80, '90' '00, or '10.

             Tim Brando Tim BrandoVerified ‏@TimBrando
@zstubbs Boloney. The incredible need of Catholics to ridicule the successful and promote the have nots says it all. Gotta say what ya see.

He doesnt seem to have a grasp of the situation facing the 7 schools nor what has transpired over the past 2+ years

Scripture says something about noticing the splinter in someone's eye while ignoring the plank in your own.  Apologies to the author for the paraphrase.

Brando is the one making a fool of himself.  Harrington was materful in his comments.  Nothing petty or foolish sounding.  Any basketball purist with respect for history and who has witnessed how the Big 7 have been yanked around and lost their way is pulling for our survival and success.  We're not doing this for the money.

No I am terrified they will but when Johnny Dawkins and tommy amaker are your most successful former players and assistants with head coaching experience and you are duke, that's not gonna happen (unless Johnny starts dominating).  Won't be Brey, and it better not be wojo or Collins w no experience.  UNC has more legit options so I def think Duke is more likely. Plus unc always makes a big thing about staying in the family.  The last time duke hired a coach he was an outsider so hopefully they do the same next time!

I think he stays unless Indiana or an UNC-type school comes calling.

Wheneer coach k retires, stevens to duke.  Thats what i want, and i think it will happen.

You think they won't stay in the family either?

Amaker has kind of redeemed himself.  Dawkins I agree hasn't done much.  Collins has been getting looks and seems to be less than interested or turning them down.  Leads me to think he knows he's next.  If ND didn't go to ACC I would say Brey had a good chance.

Lenn Robbins weighed in today saying the schools shouldnt have announced on Saturday.  I'm not expert but me thinks they would have announced on Friday but the horrific events happened.  In a situation like this with Lenny and Brando's rant you just have to take it on the chin.

What a jackass.  I've never seen the Post called a tabloid by an employee.

Takin the moral high ground of a puplication that published a man about to be run over by a subway is kinda funny yo.

first...the post and daily news are tabloids.  that's not a negative, so are newsday and numerous other papers across the country.  it's a format.

the post is amoral...not because they published that subway picture.  everyone published a picture of a man killing another from behind on west 58th street.  what was the difference?  everyone published a picture of a man in a suit who had killed his boss...right before cops killed him.

robbins is no bastion of morality.  he was PO'd because he was celebrating his son's birthday in the middle of a tragedy and he got a call from his editor to write a story about the big east seven.  that's robbins; even plugging himself that he had the story (as did everyone else) on thursday.  he could have saved the story for monday.  instead of insisting to his editor that it was the right thing to do...he enabled the big east seven to make the announcement in his paper.  sounds like selective morality to me.

Agreed it was a silly article to write...when is the right time to make the announcement? Should the C7 waited until this week when the funerals have already started. Saturday unfourtantly was probably the best day because the reality of shooting did not hot everybody yet. The showing of pictures of the little kids and the small caskets at the funerals will make everything real...There is no good time to announce the split but this week would have been much worse...

I went to a Christmas party on Friday evening and a basketball game on Saturday.  Lenn Robbins celebrated his son's birthday on Sunday.  All of our actions seem "petty" in comparison to the suffering of the people of Newtown---but we did them anyway.  Moral high-ground is right.

Everyone knew the school presidents were meeting friday.  Heck the "pundits" were predicting the split prior to the meeting.  The presidents did not finish their meeting and call a press conference of Friday.  The newspapers had the story but nothing official on Saturday.  I think one of the presidents needed to make a statement on saturday as there are 100's of athletes at the 7 schools that had a right to know what was happening to their careers.

Sounds like, from this guy anyway, that it's just a better of negotiating the right price, but that the Big East ultimately is going to sell the name/brand to the Catholic 7.
Which is great news IMO.
But, if that is happening; then I think those of you that are holding out hope that Gonzaga and St Marys will be in the new league can forget it.   They won't pay for the BE name, and then invite two or more teams from the west coast.

Tranghese takes responsibility for this and admits this day was inevitable like I said from day one.

Adding Louisville, S Florida, DePaul etc was spit and glue.  Getting a new conmissioner was never going to change the inevitable.
